A Better Basket

I am a firm believer that whatever you do, be passionate about it. Obviously, I am passionate about nutrition, and for that reason I am pursuing a degree in dietetics…but I can’t practice in the field until I get that RD license. Accordingly, I am pursuing a different passion this summer for some extra cash: I’m turning my love of grocery shopping into a livelihood—I’m starting a personal grocery shopping business.

I’ve been toying with the idea of starting this delivery service for months now, and I’m finally putting my plans into action. The details of my business are available on a separate website, but basically I’ll be providing grocery delivery services to the North Raleigh area in exchange for modest fees. I hope to incorporate my nutrition skills if possible by providing my clients with “A Better Basket,” and encouraging them to consume more balanced diets.

While we’re on the subject of summer jobs…

What’s the craziest summer job you’ve ever had?

Here’s what I munched on today:

For breakfast, I busted out the waffle-maker again for some super-tasty protein waffles.

After two very successful grocery store trips, I came home for some leftover “turkey” loaf.

Tonight’s dinner presented a first, as I had my first taste of crab in Ellie’s Crab Salad in Crisp Wonton Cups.

My tweaks:

-I used canned crab meat instead of fresh in the interest of saving money.

Well, I like crab—so much seafood that I was missing out on for the past 23 years! The dressing was a little strong though, as I found it too acidic and too spicy. Next time I might add a little sweetness or creamy avocado to balance it out.

Alright, Seth and I are off to kick off the weekend!

  1. WOW! I would love to to do that. Can’t wait to hear all about it (please).

  2. What a great idea! Wish you a big success!

  3. I wish you could hire me for your business! This is something I am incredibly interested in as well (I am currently getting my degree in Dietetics as well…then RD here I come) and personal grocery shopping is something I have thought about doing. Too bad we don’t live closer :-)

  4. Caroline that sounds like the most awesomest, coolest job ever!!

  5. Love the business idea!

  6. As someone with a marketing degree, your blog is an awesome key component of advertising your business. I live in PA, but if I lived a couple hundred miles closer, I’d be interested. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t make a profit right away. I am sure this journey will not be easy for you but it’s wonderful to see someone’s dream become a reality.

  7. So awesome about starting your own grocery shopping business. Funny, as I was thinking of doing the same thing, but a bit differently. I’d love to cook wholesome and nutritious meals for people who don’t have time and are working, as well as grocery shop for them. Wouldn’t that be nice?

I just may have to steal your idea for starting a blog about it….

  8. What a great name! I am interning with a company this summer that does something similar at grocery stores (What’s In Your Cart?) and it’s a lot of fun!
