A Christmas to Remember

While nearly all our Christmases are memorable, 2009 will surely be one that will stand out in my mind in the future. It started out just as any other, with pictures before church:

The Christmas Eve service was as lovely as ever with candlelit carols. Little did we know that we would continue to celebrate by candlelight later in the evening…

Yep. Our power went out. Nothing like a lack of TV and internet to force some good old-fashioned family bonding.

Fortunately, the power did return by morning, and I discovered that Santa had indeed come last night.

I received several foodie-tastic gifts (and some not!) that might interest you all…

I can thank the blog world for introducing me to this glorious little gadget:

Considering my deep love of Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan, I am sure I will derive much enjoyment from this other volume by Dreena Burton.

I shall be a picnic virgin no more!

More cookbooks and an apron…

Plus, a replacement for Nestor:

And miscellaneous goodies:

What was your favorite gift that you received this holiday season?

Due to the power outage last night, no smoothie was enjoyed last night, but today’s eats surely made up for it:)

This morning we had our annual gift-opening ceremony—it is indeed a ceremony, complete with taking turns (in birth order) and taking copious amounts of pictures (as evidenced above). Afterward, we were all ready for breakfast. The family had eggs and sausage, so I made myself a batch of vegan banana pancakes.

Once lunchtime rolled around, I got creative with corn chowder and tempeh bacon.

For the special evening meal, I prepared a curried pumpkin and apple soup to which I added chickpeas for protein…and just because I love ‘em.

I am off to play with my new toys and enjoy the company of my family. I hope you all are spending your evening with someone you love!
