A Feat of Navigation
I’ll admit it. I have no sense of direction. If it’s left, I go right; if it’s right, I go left. Accordingly, Google Maps and I have been pals for a while, and I have developed a certain fondness for the new GPS gadget in my car.
In recent weeks, this lack of directional intuition has expanded beyond my day-to-day commutes around town and into my running routine. Indeed, I have been chained to the dreadmill for the past few weeks out of fear that I would get lost if I tried meandering through the streets of Raleigh.
Today, however, I just couldn’t bear the thought of wasting another sunny morning in the gym. I mapped out a 6.5 mile route around the neighborhood and set out to get my daily exercise (along with a dose of vitamin D). I did write down the directions to be tucked into my sports bra…just in case.
Guess what? I didn’t get lost! For once, I didn’t care what my pace was—I felt accomplished enough for having completed this feat of navigation.
Do you have a natural sense of direction? Obviously, I would never survive in this world without GPS.
Once I returned from my run, I celebrated my victory with some seriously good eats…
I used up the last of my Sunbutter stash a few weeks ago and sought out a replacement jar at Whole Foods…only to discover that Maranatha is now making their own version of sunflower butter.
It made for a tasty addition to my morning oat bran, although it’s not sweet at all—quite a change from the cane juice-laden Sunbutter.
Before rushing off to class, I made a BBQ tofu salad with corn and caramelized onions. I’m pretty sure caramelized onions is as close as vegetables can get to candy.
Once home, I whipped up a batch of the B-Hut version of tortilla soup. How can soggy tortillas be so delicious?
Alright, I have much to do before the evening ends. Toodles.

I don’t have good direction, but I love to explore, and it’s easy to fix your mistakes running 10+ miles if you leave plenty of space for error. That being said, once I did get lost running, called my parents, but ended up finding my way home 14 loooong miles later.
I have THE worst sense of direction. Ever. No exaggeration.
I like the sweetness of Sunflower seed butter, at least the TJ’s version (never had Sunbutter).
Gah! Those onions do not look nearly blackened and unrecognizable enough to pass through my lips. But if you say they were sweet like candy, I will believe you…
I have the worst sense of direction. I get lost going to class!
My sense of direction is ok, but I like to write down routes in new places, too. I use Google Maps a ton because I don’t have a GPS. It usually works.
Hope classes are going well!
One of the only times my husband I have ever fought was over me not knowing directions… oops
I just found your blog by clicking through other blogrolls. I love your dishes, so cute.
running outdoor is much more fun than running in a treadmill… I think I’ll do it as long as there’s no snow.
navigation? not my thing. so I usually run the same route with minor modifications.
i have a natural sense of direction if i pay attention to landmarks, but i can’t just be dropped somewhere and automatically know where i am. but i’ve definitely gotten lost while out taking walks in large neighborhoods before! one time i even ended up in tears and having to call my dad tocome pick me up
and i so agree about the caramelized onions! oh man, i made a whole bunch of them last night and just ate them plain. haha. delicious!
I was so excited when I found the Maranatha Sunflower Butter at WF a few weeks ago because it is the only one I found with no added sweetener … so I was reading all these blogs with sunflower butter ideas and sadly I as bereft….until now!

I generally have an excellent sense of direction. I like being the navigator on trips
Even when I was a kid when we drove to Disneyland (I was
I took the front seat and navigated while dad drove and mom napped in the back seat with my sister.
Sweetened sunflower seed butter? I’ve never had that. The stuff I’ve always bought has been straight up sunflower seeds.
Lovely photos! Such beautiful setup!
I’ve got my dad’s trucker sense of direction. My husband calls me Magellan. So I always get stuck shot calling for long drives. But I like getting lost now and then. Best way to discover a new town.
