A Fresh Start

Before the Whole Foods gods decided to bless Birmingham, I relied on a store called The Fresh Market for my natural and organics needs. You may recall my mentioning it previously, in reference to their amazing bulk bin selection. Anyway, I made another trip today, where I discovered a few new items:

Although The Fresh Market is no Whole Foods or TJ’s, it made for a refreshing start to the week. (Only a foodie would say that a visit to the grocery store is refreshing). How is the week treating you so far?

Sunday

Sludge-like appearance. Fantastic taste.

Monday

My beloved weather.com informed me this morning that the temperature outside was a toasty 13 degrees. Hence, I opted to ellipticize this morning instead of brave the cold for a run. Inexplicably, however, I found myself craving a smoothie for breakfast. So I donned an extra sweatshirt at the breakfast table so I could enjoy my chilly treat.

For lunch, I met a few of my favorite high school friends at Surin of Thailand. I wasn’t all that hungry at the time, so  ordered a seaweed salad and a mug of jasmine tea. Later my hunger beckoned of course, so I snacked on some clementines and a handful of soy crisps. (These friends are as of yet unaware of The Broccoli Hut, so no pics!)

I wasn’t about to skip HumMonday this week, so I whipped up a batch of the spinach variety for dinner. I guess my mind is still lingering in the Christmas season—this whole meal is unintentionally red and green!

Alright, I have to skedaddle to a Skype date with you-know-who, so I bid you adieu for tonight. Have a great Tuesday!

  1. smoothie in a bowl is sooo pretty! cute pic with the yule log sign- i find it funny too!

  2. the fresh market sounds good- grocery shopping (especially at places like that) always puts a smile on my face! the spinach hummus sounds great.

  3. I can’t tell you how much I loved your hummus! I can’t wait to try your other varieties. Josh’s parents use to have a fresh market near them and I loved going there. They have lots of fun products and their bakery is delicious! Duke is beautiful! What a cool school ;)

  4. I love grocery shopping! When I am stressed out I head over to Whole Foods and stroll around the aisle, I always end up finding something different to try or something I love and come back home happy!
I have a fresh market right around the corner from where I live, I do shop there sometimes (when I am in a hurry, WF is not so close…) but I like Whole Foods and TJ’s way better! (and FM is smaller too)
I have been having smoothies for breakfast too, but I don’t add ice to mine during the winter, I get too cold too easily. I defrost my fruits and the hemp protein (love the pom-mango amazing meal, which I discovere in your blog by the way!) makes my smoothie thick enough.

  5. When I visited my cousin in Asheville N.C. we were at the Fresh Market every day! I loved it!

  6. I love Fresh Market! We have an amazing one here — the produce is great ;)

  7. I have grocery store jealousy! Around here we don’t have anything like Fresh Market (well, besides WFs).

  8. I’ve been to The Fresh Market before! It wasn’t my favorite place…(I think TJs has them beat) ;)
Your spinach hummus looks so colorful and delicious!

  9. I love Fresh Market! There is one near my boyfriend’s parents’ house, and we always go there since they don’t have a WF or TJ’s.

Hope your skype date was fun!

  10. ahhh grovery stores make me so happy! i wish they didn’t because I would probably have more money but I just cant help it! this one looks awesome!!

    SIAB looks amazing!! :)

  11. Yeah, there’s no denying that “yule log” is just a funny (and perplexing) thing in general. I don’t blame you for giggling. Fresh Market must be a unique store indeed! ;)

  12. Very good looking SIAB! Green hummus looks yum, too!

  13. I’m so sorry that the winter weather is spoiling your running too…I think we should make a pact to emigrate to Australia. No snow or ice there, only huge and terrifying spiders. Thanks so much for answering my question about outdoor running though :)

You’re tougher than I am having a smoothie in this weather. It’s oat bran all the way for me. Looks delicious though!

    Hope you’re keeping warm.

    Take care
