A Future Yogini?

A quick glance through the food blogosphere will reveal that many of you bloggers share another common interest: yoga. Shockingly, I have reached the ripe age of 21 without ever trying this popular activity (with the exception of the Wii Fit version). I’ve heard that it’s a great way to unwind after a run, and my dad has also been encouraging me to try it as a way to deal with my obsessive need for control. Clearly, there are many benefits to practicing yoga…but where do I begin? Any tips for how to get started?

On another note, I thought I would mention this important day in Duke culture. Today is the last day of classes, commonly referred to as LDOC (pronounced ell-dock). LDOC is a completely surreal experience: some people begin drinking at 8AM…and really don’t stop until the late evening. (Yes, there are a few brave souls who go to class drunk). Food vendors (i.e., funnel cake peddlers) are stationed on the quad all day, and several bands play in the evening. I really don’t know what the day holds for me, but I am sure it will be fun and memorable.

Here’s a quick recap of my eats:

Monday

I kept lunch pretty old-school–nothing fancy here. Still delish.

I am on such a BBQ kick lately!

One of my evening activities was ChiO’s annual Sundresses at Sunset event at the Duke Gardens. It was a lovely way to spend some time with my sorority sisters…plus I got to wear a new dress:) FYI, I am the one in the middle.

Dinner was another quick affair, because I had some may-juh studying to do for my test the next day. Hence the desk serving as dining area…

Fabulous smoothie! I cannot get enough hemp. On a side note, I have devevoped a bad habit of picking out all the nuts and dried fruit from my tubes of MixMyGranola. Soon, I’m afraid there will be nothing left but oats:(

Tuesday

I ate up the last of my fig waffles (reviewed here). Check out the fig action in each bite.

I enjoyed the Ginger Peanut Tofu Salad from Everyday Dish so much the first time I made it that I found myself craving it yesterday. This was also the first time I cut up a mango (I usually rely on the frozen chunks from Whole Foods). Let’s just say I didn’t think to peel it until after I had cubed it up. Oops.

Now that I look at this picture, it appears that Mr. Owl is winking at you. Creepy.

Delicious and filling dinner. Sadly, I am now out of olives.

This shake was so thick and delicious–it didn’t even need ice cream to taste decadent.

Wednesday

I started off the day simply, with my favorite cereal of all time: Kashi GoLean. I must have this cereal on hand at all times because I snack on it daily (yes, I do eat things even beyond what I post here). Anyway, I highly recommend it paired with walnuts…I’ve enjoyed it this way several times before. What’s your absolute favorite cereal?

Don’t forget to recognize Earth Day today! Celebrate by entering Tina‘s Stonyfield giveaway-enter by April 25th for some awesome yogurt goodies.

Now I am off to my LAST class of the semester…where I have to take a quiz. Boo.

Have a good one, and I’ll be back soon!

  1. HELL YES FOR YOGA!!! I highly recommend the Sara Ivanhoe DVD series (check it out on naturaljourneys.com).

    Enjoy your LAST CLASS!!

  2. That owl pic is so funny!

  3. I say go for it! Try yoga! Are there any studios near you at home? I hope you try it and can’t wait to hear what you think. It’s helped me tremendously with a;; that “control” stuff.

Delicious eats! And yay for LDOC!!! It’s ours too!

  4. Congrats on making it to the last class! Great feeling, no?

RE: VeggieGirl’s comment above, I can second her opinion of Sara Ivanhoe, though I’ve only tried one of hers, which was Candlelight Yoga (it’s a Crunch DVD). I did it for a couple weeks each night before bed and slept like a BABE. Unfortunately, I couldn’t sustain the habit of getting all my to-do’s done with enough time to spare to fit in 40 min of yoga before bedtime, but it was really nice while it lasted, haha…

And Kashi Go Lean is my fave too. SO GOOD! Especially marinated in yogurt. I die.

  5. I pick the good stuff out of cereal too!
And YES try yoga! Not to be dramatic or anything, but your life will be CHANGED if you practice regularly. To start, try thinking about what you want out of yoga… do you want an aerobic, heart-pumping, sweaty, muscle burning class or do you want something slower-paced, with more deep stretching and focus on relaxation? Because there are so many types of yoga, you’ll want to make sure you find a class that will suit your needs. A bikram class will be worlds away from a yin yoga class!

  6. I was thinking your owl plate looked a little like a cyclops!

I’ve also thought about getting into a little yoga via dvd’s, so I’ll be interested to see what suggestions you get :)

Have a great last day of classes :D

  7. ah! have fun in your last class!! SO exciting :) You should celebrate with a brewski and some yoga…at the same time? Or not.. haha enjoy!

  8. I am sort of …ok SUPER Type A and I cannot do regular yoga! It drives me crazy to just lay…I think of all the other things I should be doing. I do LOVE hot yoga though!

What a fun day- love your dress!

Your lunch looks So good to me! I’m all for any meal that involes apple and PB ;)

  9. ummmm, yoga has been on my to-do list and new years resolution for approx 3 years…and still, no luck. its so good for you, i know id be into it. so why havent i started!?!?

kashi golean crunch is one of my fave cereals EVAH! mmm. have a fun earth day and LDOC

  10. wow, i thought my classes ended early! i can’t believe you are already on your last day! i love your winking owl plate, haha

  11. Oh wow, everything looks so delicious! And I totally want to try those rice chips, I saw them a long time ago, but never thought to pick them up. So, now I am going to next time I see them!!!! =D Hahaha, love your eats, delicious!

  12. LDOC sounds pretty interesting!! I spy some carrots and salsa ;)

You look cay-uuute, girl!! Mr. Owl is a creeper! I’m not sure if I like that! My favorite cereal is Kashi Go Lean Crunch Honey Almond – mmmmm, crunch and be happy!

  13. rice crisps are the best!! better than any other chip. that owl plate is soo cute.

  14. Ahahaha, “Taste those medium chain fatty acids.” You are too hilarious! I’ve been dipping my toe into yoga these past few weeks and I’ve really enjoyed it. I started by just taking a beginner’s class offered at the gym. :)

I’m pretty much a hazard towards all cereal, but especially PB Puffins (dangerous!) and anything with the words “cinnamon” or “honey”.

  15. I can’t believe you are almost done already!!!!

Right now, I’m loving all the Barbara’s Cereals….shredded oats & puffins especially!! And Kashi heart to heart is definitely a fave of mine too!!

And as always, that scrambled tofu is calling me!!!

I’d say try any beginner’s yoga class and just get a feel for what you liked doing in it!!
I personally loved the relaxing, slow ones that really helped me calm down after a stressful day!

  16. We have the same cute plates! I will admit, I’m 22 and haven’t done yoga either. I took like 1 class with my friend a long time ago. I really want to try it though!

  17. I’ve been wanting to take up yoga too since I’m like the least flexible person on earth!

I tried some of the audio lessons from yogadownload.com last month for Tina’s yoga challenge and they were good! They had free 20 minute videos if you wanted to check it out.

  18. I adore, adore, adore yoga! Better late than never :)

  19. Can I just say.. you are so BEAUTIFUL CAROLINE! You look so happy in that picture & I adore that colorful dress!

Ok that’s it.. I’m going to the store to buy those FlaxPlus Waffles with Figs. Your pictures are making me crave them immensely!

Hope you have a great Thursday !

  20. Hi there! I’ve seen your comments elsewhere and wanted to check out your blog. Your dishes are always so pretty, but that pink owl one is the best…a hoot!
