A Little FN Bashing
A few weeks ago, one of my good friends directed me to this website, Food Network Humor. A mere glance at just one blog post got me hooked. As a self-described Food Network junkie, I was cracking up–I mean some of the posts are pee-in-your-pants funny. If you take a look at the site for yourself, you’ll notice certain themes in the criticisms of each host: Sandra Lee is portrayed as a hopeless lush, Ina Garten as a snob, and Giada as, well, a pair of boobs. While these jokes might seem harsh, most of them do have at least a kernel of truth in them. Do you watch the Food Network? Who are your favorite hosts? Least favorite? My favorites are Ellie Krieger and Rachael Ray, of course. Although I don’t have any particular TV chef enemies, I’m not the biggest fan of Sandra Lee–the semi-homemade principles are often contradictory to my notion of clean eating. Plus, she’s skinny and has big boobs–not fair!–I have to hate her at least a little bit:)
Although I spent far too much time perusing FNHumor today, I did manage to fit in a few good meals too.

I am so stoked that my Berry HempShake supply has been replenished. A celebratory berry-mango smoothie was in order.

Awhile back, I noticed a carrot-raisin salad recipe that included shredded coconut. I thought it sounded like an interesting combination…but I knew it could be better. I kicked it up with some luscious coconut butter, and it turned out to be a fabulous alteration! This was my first time trying the original flavor of Amazing Grass, and it may be my favorite flavor yet. It has a subtle minty flavor that combines so well with almond milk. Overall, a delicious (albeit slightly odd) breakfast.

For lunch, I made a simple pizza with avocado puree and some cooked veggies. I didn’t bake it because I feared the avocado would turn brown, so I just heated up the crust in the m-wave before adding the toppings. Tasty.

After raving about Cashew-Ginger Tofu in my cookbook video, it was only a matter of time before I made it again. This rendition was particularly delectable, with the sauce reaching the perfect consistency.

The Williams-Sonoma catalog arrived today, and it has been calling my name all day. Ciao!![]()

ohhh thanks for the link i cant wait to check out the website! i am watching FN as i type. i love bobby and michael.
I love Food Network too. Honestly, I love Giada’s show (although I am not a fan of the boobage display). Everything looks fresh, simple, and elegant! I also enjoy Ellie Krieger’s show (she’s not on as much), Rachael, and Ina. Haha, I’m not a fan of Sandra either, I’m all about making things from scratch (most of the time anyway) or at least an all natural shortcut.
Hmmm, I should try out the original flavor of Amazing Grass from my pile of samples. Sounds yummy! Love the toastiness of those cinnamon raisin bagels, by the way.
Yay for ED&BV cashew tofu
. I checked it out and it was soooo good!
I KNEW you’d get addicted to that site, hahahaha
Williams-Sonoma = AMAZING!! Enjoy the catalog shopping.
That avocado veggie pizza sounds delicious. Looks incredible too!
I used to be obsessed with FN, but I rarely watch it anymore. I look at food enough haha. I just visited that site and omg it’s hilarious!!!!! Thank you! Haha
<3 jess
xoxo
I am going to check out that site immediately! Sounds hilarious! It’s true though – there’s been a couple times we’ve caught Sandra Lee and my husband is always calling her an alchy. Then there’s Boobada, err Giada. lol despite the boobs I do like her though! Her and Ellie Krieger may be my top 2. Oh and I like “AB” too (my husband’s nickname for Alton Brown).
That’s an awesome idea for pizza sauce. I can’t eat red sauce, so I’m always looking for alternatives!
mmmm, cashew ginger tofu.
my favorite food network hosts are ina, giada, bobby, and i have to admit that i kind of like guy, too. haha. sandra lee really bugs me! and i used to like rachel, but she can be a little bit annoying sometimes. she seems super sweet though. and even though none of the chefs make food that i could eat, most of her food just doesn’t appeal to me at all. i REALLY think it’s time for food network to get a vegan chef! do they even have a VEGETARIAN chef? come onnnn food network…
have fun looking through the williams-sonoma catalog! i just got a bunch of vegan cookbooks that i’ve been looking through obsessively!

OMG. I just checked out the site – Its fantastic! If I had a tv and cable, it would be tuned in to the Food Network 80% of the time. The other 20? Off. Because there are infomercials for several hours. You understand.
That carrot raisin coconut salad looks amazing. Must, buy, coconut butter! I don’t watch the food network often but I like Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri.
HAHAHA
that website is amazin! Thanks for introducing me
I dislike rachael ray, sandra lee, and guy fieri because their personalities annoy me. I like Alton Brown and Tyler Florence. I like watching Ina cook!
I have got to try that pizza.. its got my name written all over it!
Caroline,
I’m not a big fan of Lee either… Boobs on a stick if you ask me! ;P
I am reading the WS issue right now! Seriously, that catalog has food porn written all over it. Those cute little pies on the cover? ADORABLE.
Must make.
With Love,
Emily
avocado veggie pizza?! you are a genius
p.s. the recipe for how to make my garbanzo bean salad is actually in the post. Super duper easy
avocado pizza? woooo….. you’re so creative girl!!!
THat pizza with avocado puree?! GENIUS!!!
Sandra Lee IS a huge lush. I noticed that within the first couple episodes I’ve seen haha
HAH great website. I hate to say it, but Rachael Ray gets on my nerves quite often. And I love making fun of Ina’s accent- especially when she says “Isn’t that faaaaaaahbulous?” Yea, she is kind of a snob, but she’s from the Hamptons so that’s to be expected.
Funny site! I like the post about the theme songs
Hahaha that site is hilarious
Favorites: Ellie and Giada
Least Favorites: Rachael (sorry!), Sandra, and Paula. Paula just kills me with her love of butter! Once I saw her garnish a drink with a stick of butter – ahhh!!
For whatever reason, I’ve never gotten too into the food network. However, I do like watching a random “Good Eats” or “The Next Food Network Star.” It’s pretty amazing how skilled those people are!
AWESOME smoothie mixture. What a perfect summery combination. I just love smoothies in the warm weather!
xxoo
Heather
hahaha oh yes. The food network definatly has “types” doesnt it!? haha. My favs include Bobby Flay and Rachel Ray. I am not a huge fan of Chef at Home though, or Paula Dean.. just not my cooking styles, eck! haha.
Your smoothie sounds divine. What is the carrot and coconut salad recipe!!? YUMMY
So I actually NEVER watch the food network, who knows why……but i’m sure i’d love it!! I’ll have to give it a chance sometime soon, since i’m a foodie and all hahaa!
ps-That carrot-coconut-raisin salad looks amazing!
ahahaha I am going to go check that website out now! I love the FN!!!
Favorites: Giada and Bobby and Ina (best recipes fasho) and Paula just because she does whatever she wants
Least Favorites: SANDRA (the girls I babysit could cook better than her), the Neelys (I try to like their show, but they are SO CORNY)
i have no clue why but i cant STAND giada!!! i used to feel the same way about rachael ray, but then i met her and she was THE sweetest person ever. i love paula ever since she was on kathy griffin’s D list
AVO PIZZA!!! yum times a million
I used to think Bobby Flay was a pompous one-trick pony, but I’ve been watching him a lot more lately and my opinion has totally changed. He’s probably my favorite now, due to Iron Chef America and Next Food Network Star. I’ll happily watch RR or Paula Deen if they’re on. Paula not for her food, but because she is absolutely insane in a fun-to-watch way. Can’t watch Sandra Lee, Giada or Emeril.
All your food looks great! I’ve baked mashed avocado without it turning brown, so I say give it a try.
That pizza looks delish!
Larabar sent me a box of their bars when I was Fan of the Day on their blog and I think the pb & j may be a new one that hasn’t hit the shelves yet- I’ve never seen it before. It is worth buying though- like a pb & j sammie all wrapped up in a bar
