A Marketer’s Dream

In the midst of my studying the other day, I stumbled across an out-of-the-ordinary mailer:

Like any TJ’s devotee, I pored over the advertisement, reading about every holiday item featured at my local store. It wasn’t long before visions of gingerbread men and egg nog danced in my  head.

It should come as no surprise then that a trip to Trader Joe’s was first on my list of things to do upon liberation from schoolwork.

Although I contemplated buying an assortment of chocolate-covered nuts/snacks stocking stuffers for my whole family, ultimately my dearth of suitcase space convinced me to just buy a few items. The lavish holiday display also tempted me—I mean who wouldn’t want a box of mini gingerbread men?

I came home with a sack full of old favorites, plus a few items I’ve spotted around the blog world of late.

This behavior is clearly a demonstration of my vulnerability to advertising tactics—yes, I am a marketer’s dream.

How susceptible are you to advertising strategies?

Rewind to last night…

Tuesday

Before heading out to see Young Frankenstein, I slapped together a roasted squash dinner with lentils, onions, & walnuts.

Wednesday

Delighted by a sudden abundance of time, I treated myself to another stack of protein pancakes this morning, once again featuring blueberries.

For lunch, I prepared a festive batch of Pumpkin Hummus.

Bok choy is in full season here in North Carolina, so I put my supply to good use this evening with a noodle bowl, as inspired by Chai’s. It wasn’t nearly as salty as good ol’ Chai’s version, but it was pretty tasty, nonetheless.

Alright, I am off to relax with some holiday-themed television programming:)

  6. Oh, I am the EPITOME of grasping on to marketing and advertising. That’s why I’m one of Whole Foods weekly valued customers, after all :)

  7. I’m a regular flyer reader. Oh look at this sale, oh look at that deal! What can I say ;) I will never stop being jealous of TJ access though, we need one in Canada!

  8. I <3 TJs…I want the whole store every time I got there. Blueberries rock in pancakes. Something about the way the heat makes them explode. Delicious!

  10. TJ’s advertisements get me every time. :D

And I love that high fiber cereal! It’s especially yummy with a glass of soymilk. :D

  11. I’m so bad at succumbing to ads. I’m reading this book called Mindless Eating where they do all these funky food marketing experiments and I’m just going through all the experiments and essentially making a checklist of everything I’ve fell for. Love reading your blog!
