A Passion for (Air) Pegasus

Despite its title, tonight’s post is not an ode to the winged horse of Greek mythology fame. Rather, I wish to express my passion for a different kind of Pegasus:

This morning, the UPS man tapped on my door, just as I was about to sit down to a bowl of steaming cheese grits (more on that later). My annoyance soon turned to utter delight when I discovered that my new running shoes had arrived. I first discovered the wonders of the Air Pegasus shoe back in March 2008. It was only a matter of time before I developed a dependency on this magical running shoe.

Pair number two arrived, courtesy of Santa:

To kick off a summer filled with morning runs, I decided pair number three was absolutely necessary:

True to my Technicolor tendencies, I aim to get each pair in a different color:)

According to my calculations (with a little help from Nike Plus), my most recent pair logged  700 miles. What’s the longest you’ve ever kept a pair of running shoes?

Enough of my infatuation with footwear. Let’s get onto the grub:

Wednesday

Peach-naner smoothie. Looks like sludge. Tastes like heaven.

Thursday

Due to my recent savory oats kick, I have been neglecting the unopened package of grits in my cabinet. This morning, however, I got back to my Southern roots and prepared a batch of ooey-gooey cheese grits with some light cheddar and broccoli.

I had a busy afternoon of class, a meeting, and shoe-obsessing, so I kept lunch simple: Goddess Garbanzo Wrap with my favorite sides.

For dinner, I tried my hand at making a vegetarian jambalaya using kidney beans, soy sausage, quinoa, and veggies. I was quite pleased with the results! Prepare to see some variations on this in the future…

Just one more day ‘til the weekend…be back Friday!

  1. Congrats on the new shoes. I am an “Only Nike’s” kind of girl. I have long skinny feet and my entire life, that’s all I wear to run in. I swear, I shoulda bought stock years ago :) enjoy your shoes!!!!!!

  2. The mailman just brought me new sneakers the other day – I wear Brooks though.

I love grits! I had never had them until I lived in Georgia but they are delicious. I wish Matt liked broccoli – I bet cheesy grits are delicious with broccoli.

  3. In all honesty, my running shoes are far too old as is

  4. I totally understand your love for running shoes, however, I’m an Asics girl through and through. I usually phase my shoes out from running only to elliptical/walking. I’m still using my shoes from sophomore year!! Not to run though–NO! My shins would never stand a chance haha.

  5. Ooo broccoli in oats?? Now that’s one I haven’t tried!

  6. I just used my new pair for the first time today!! Yay for new running shoes. Gotta love em!

  8. I’m not running anymore, but I used to. I think the longest I went for was 500 miles? But I tend to be injury prone =P

I would love to see a recipe for the jambalaya soon :D

  9. My running shoe brand of choice is definitely Brooks…I’m in love. I get so excited when they come out with new colors, too. My latest pair = teal, and I love them!

Your vegetarian jambalaya looks so good. We just served quinoa at our health fair today!

  10. I’m all about Adidas running shoes! Are those sesame covered cashews on your salad?! YUM!

  16. I have tennis shoes from 2005, I don’t really run so they’re still perfectly fine!

I’ve never had grits before but that bowl sounds absolutely incredible. Do you use a canister of grits or those instant packs? I think they make instant packs? Teach me southern cuisine!! ;)

    xoxo,
    Shelley

  18. I switched over to Nike a few years ago, but my favorite are the Vomeros! Love them!
I think I ususaly put somewhere bewteen 500-600 miles on my running shoes? I tend to get new ones every 6-8 months.

  19. Love the pumpkin granola on top of your smoothie1

  20. The green Nike’s I liiiike!!!!! I can’t believe you have 3!! I don’t go through shoes fast cuz I’m not a runner…I guess on the plus side I save a lot of money?? Swimming is probably the most cost effective sport around. hahah or maybe yoga. :P

    You and your smoothies!

  21. I’m about 98% sure I have the SAME sneaks! luurrrrv them! Like running on air :)

holy 700 miles! I’m super glad you got a new pair finally!

  22. those are my favorite running shoes too! for my feet, it’s gotta be nike, and pegasus are my favorite. I’m digging on the green; I don’t think I’ve seen that color scheme!

  23. I too have a great love for Nike. I was obsessed with my Nike Air Zooms, but 4 pairs later, and my beloved sneaker has been discontinued. I bought a pair of asics to replace them, but my old pair of Nike’s always seem to slip on my feet. Maybe the Air Pegasus is the answer to my prayers!

  24. I’m still on pegasus #2 :) I love them though!
