A Peanut Butter Post
Last spring, I published a few product reviews revolving around of the world’s most glorious foods, peanuts. First, I wrote a comprehensive product review of my beloved Clif bars; however, two flavors were conspicuously missing due to the infamous Salmonella outbreak. Since the publication of that review, I have been able to sample the remaining peanut-laden flavors. In addition, I wrote a post dedicated to the wonders of Peanut Butter and Company products, but two flavors were absent due to the limited availability in my area. Thanks to the kind folks at PB & Co., however, I was able to sample those elusive varieties as well. My thoughts on all this peanutty goodness are below. Let the peanut feast begin!
Clif Bars
Peanut Toffee Buzz: If you’re anything like me, your conception of “toffee” might be a bit vague. After a little education (supplied by Wikipedia), I learned that toffee is a “confection made by boiling molasses or sugar (creating inverted sugar) along with butter, and occasionally flour.” Accordingly, this flavor simply tastes like a very sweet version of the Crunchy Peanut Butter, although the peanuttiness is decidedly more subtle.
Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch: It’s pretty tough to create anything involving the legendary chocolate-peanut butter combination and not have it taste good. Fortunately, this flavor is no exception–it was pure delight from the first taste to the final nibble. Perhaps the reason I enjoyed this bar so much is that it reminded me of Girl Scout Tagalong cookies. Yum.
Peanut Butter and Company Peanut Butters
The Bee’s Knees: Considering that one of my favorite sandwich combinations both as a child and an adult is peanut butter and honey, my enthusiasm for this flavor was understandably vast. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed by the Bee’s Knees. Despite the fact that there is indeed honey in the mix, this peanut butter tasted artificial to me. After a quick scan of the ingredients list, I noticed “natural honey flavor.” I am guessing that this ingredient is the culprit for the less-than-stellar honey-ness. As a result of my “meh” reaction to this product, I haven’t experimented with it much beyond using it as a pre-run snack with whole wheat bread. Do you have any suggestions for using the Bee’s Knees? Maybe your recipes will change my mind about this flavor:)

The Heat Is On: Now this flavor really got my creative juices flowing. You might be thinking, “A savory peanut butter? What could I possibly do with that?” The answer: Plenty. Here is a mere selection of how I have incorporated peanut butter into the world of the savory:
Clearly, I have thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with this hot peanut butter. A warning to the heat-averse: this peanut butter is quite spicy, so dig in at your own risk.
With that, I will conclude this ode to the peanut. Be back soon for a re-cap of the weekend!

Hello and welcome! I have created this blog for people who love food, especially healthful, vegetarian food.
I have just graduated from Duke University with degrees in English and psychology. I plan to pursue a master's degree in nutrition starting in Fall 2010. Ideally, I would like to combine my love of food and the written word someday as a health writer.

Great reviews! I completely agree on the Bee’s Knees. I’ve hardly touched my jar. And even though I’m generally not a fan of the clif bars, your reviews have my appetite going
So The Bee’s Knees tasted a little “JIF-y,” eh?? Too bad
Thank you for all these wonderful PB-filled product reviews!!
Great reviews!! Your PB veggie sammie looks incredibly yummy!!
Wahhhh I’m allergic to PB! At least I can eat almond butter though…don’t know how I didn’t for 19 years!!
I must find The Heat is On! It sounds so delicious!
Mmm…PB is honestly one of my favorite foods ever
cool post! I’m curious to try some more of the PB & Co flavors. I tried the Heat is On, because I am a spicy fiend, and while it was ok, I thought it was sort of too chili-powder-y and not spicy, cayenne-y enough. good for cooking, but not as good as I would have liked for snacking with some celery sticks! …I think I’ll skip the Bee’s Knees. have you tried any others?
Love your uses for the spicy PB. Mighty Maple is my fave PB&Co. product! And I loved both those Clif Bars…
I tried the toffee chip clif bar as well, but I don’t think it was peanut-ty enough for me
I love tagalog cookies though, so I have the chocolate peanut crunch one!
The Heat is On definitely made some yummy sounding dishes!
love the review and the PB tofu glaze…yeah, that works!
My fave is definitely Mighty Maple, but I havne’t had either of these. I bet I would love Bee’s Knees, but the Heat one sounds cool too.
I don’t think i’m down with the spicy pb, but i love their other flavs!! And Clif def knows their pb bars, they hit the spot for me
I haven’t been too brave with the spicy peanut butter but your creations sound awesome! what was in your veggie sandwich?
<3 those clif bars. And anything PB!
Thanks for the toffee definition. I can’t believe I never really knew what it was! Now I see why it’s so good.
PB BBQ TOFU!!??
yummmm!
I wish you wrote this post earlier… because I had to throw away heat is on! I couldn’t think of anything yummy with it and didn’t like it plain!
i love the PB chocolate chip clif bar! and i haven’t tried the bees knees PB but that one looks good. the heat is on one is definitely REALLY hot!
