A Rediscovered Hobby
When I was in high school, I spent the majority of my time doing one of two things: studying or singing. Yes, I was a hard-core choir dork and devoted vocal student; indeed, it was my foremost hobby before I discovered the wonders of food and nutrition. Once I graduated high school, however, I had grown tired of the world of elegant arias and hummable ballads. Much to my parents’ chagrin, I gave up singing upon matriculation into college.
Lately, however, I have had a strange urge to exercise my vocal cords again. Accordingly, I set out on a desperate search today for my binder containing my entire vocal repertoire. My search was successful, and I have been bursting out in song all day as a result. Have you ever rediscovered an old hobby?
Amidst my singing, I managed to chat with Seth as well as prepare some tasty meals…
Thursday
Another chocolate-chili creation. Last one for a while though—my Spirutein arrived today:)

Morning drizzles prevented an outdoor run this morning. After some ellipticizing, I settled on some Ezekiel cinnamon raisin toast with cottage cheese and pumpkin, plus a few accompaniments.
After last night’s dinner, I still had a crap-ton of spaghetti squash leftover. Although I contemplated making something super creative with it, ultimately I chose to include it as part of a veggie plate for today’s lunch.
I consulted Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Cookbook again for tonight’s dinner. I adapted her Beef and Vegetable Barley Soup to suit my vegetarian diet in that I substituted chickpeas for the beef. Barley is a far underappreciated grain, in my opinion.
Katie, Mom, and I are now about to begin our annual Christmas cookie baking bonanza. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Yep! Love rediscovering old favorite activities
Have fun baking!
Mmmm cottage cheese and pumpkin on toast was my dinner of choice this evening! Great taste buds think alike (or taste alike…)!
I love baking cookies – that is what I will be doing most of the weekend!
I wish I could sing – I have zero musical talent.
Enjoy your evening!
Is that a Clean Eating mag I spy in the background!? (one of my favorite magazines)… Your eats look delish
Pumpkin, cottage cheese, and toast are among my top favorites as well.
I oftentimes find my hobbies shifting. I’ll start to devote more time to one thing at the expense of another and then something will spark my interest and draw me back into another hobby. it keeps things interesting
Spaghetti squash freezes really well. I used to freeze it in little one-serving baggies when I’d get huge squashes from the csa.
I love your plate! I can just picture you bursting into song all day. i hope you watch Glee…you’d love it!
I used to be quite the basketball player. They called me “Money.” Feel free to do the same
your toast with pumpkin and CC look so so good!
and freaking awesome plates!! SO love them
i sang too!!! i was ‘class vocalist’ in my senior HS yearbook and went to states in choir
soprano II, baby. in college i did a capella but nothing since. i miss it too, although i don’t think my voice will ever be the same.
PS: as a former cheerleader, singer, and musical theater person, GLEE IS MY FAVORITE THING, EVERRRRRRR.
It’s so nice rediscovering old fun activities- I used to play piano and got a keyboard in the summer to knock around on when I feel like it! Just like the good old days! All your meals look crazily delicious, broccoli is my fave veggie too… xxxxxx
I agree that barley is totally under appreciated. It’s one of my favs!
I’m totally going to start calling Mama Pea Money!
After seeing you try all these Eating Clean Recipes from the cookbook I’m remind that I need to try my hand at some as well.
I haven’t really rediscovered an old hobby, but I wish more than anything that I could go back to high school and play lacrosse again!
I rediscovered puzzles! Except it’s so hard to find a good one
It is always nice to rediscover something we used to like so much, I am happy for you!
I am with you with the barley thing, I also like it and believe it is underrated. Ohh, and have you tried making a barley risotto? It is delicious made that way, yumm!

I think we need a video of some of your fabulous singing
I just purchased another spaghetti squash and can’t wait to cook it up (SO tasty). Hope you are having a nice Saturday
My hobbies shift frequently too and I often seem to return to old things. I used to love to knit and sew, fell out of it for a while and then rediscovered it. Now I have kind of fallen out of it again but I have a feeling there will be another return someday
hobbies are the best & i think it is really cool that you are a singer!
