All in the Family
This past weekend has been spent reuniting with the various members of my immediate family: namely my sisters and their respective spouses. We spent some time shopping, chatting, and eating, of course. I feel so lucky to have all my family in the same place–it’s part of what makes leaving so difficult! Here are a few recent pics of the clan:

Onto the edibles:
Friday
So perfectly tropical. Made with Living Harvest original hemp.

I had a craving for these pancakes from Everday Dish again. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: blueberry pancakes make the world a better place. What are your favorite pancake variations?

The girls (Mom, my sisters, and I) headed out to Target, Ann Taylor Loft, and Banana Republic for a little shopping/bonding. I came back empty-handed (except for a box of Mini Clifs from Target), but I had a pleasant afternoon, nonetheless. I came back famished, so I just made a meal of dips. I made the black-eyed pea dip out of mushrooms, BBQ seasoning, & garlic; the spiciness was the perfect accompaniment to the cool-sweet jicama.

My sister Lea, her husband, and I headed out to a local Mexican place, La Paz for dinner with friends. I munched on a few chips with salsa, plus what you see below. Although I was hungry, I didn’t eat everything on my plate–that was quite a mountain of food!

veggie burrito (spinach, mushrooms, peppers, & corn) without cheese; black beans; rice that I did not eat
The rest of the evening was spent at my other sister’s house. It ended up being a late night, so no smoothie.
Sunday
I was all set to use kumquats for my bowl of K oats, but a tip from a certain wise blogger (CCV) recommended that I choose a less sour fruit, so I settled on kiwi instead. I found myself licking the bowl in hopes of finding traces of Barney Butter. Yeah, I have no shame.

I finally got a chance to try the renowned crack wrap for lunch. I grilled it on the good ol’ GF, and it turned out…truly crack-tastic. Thanks to Sarah for her recent tutorial! The salad was inspired by a recipe from Clean Eating, but I ended up making several substitutions in the end. Tasty, nonetheless.

Spicy Jicama Salad (shredded cabbage, red onion, jicama, orange-cayenne dressing); crack wrap; trail mix

Snackage:

cottage cheese with blueberry flax & strawberries
You may recall when I reviewed TJ’s Blueberry Flax a few months ago. Still a perfect cottage cheese topper.
The whole gang came over for dinner tonight. My dad prepared spaghetti and meatballs, but I opted for a different rendition on the old classic. Definitely one of my “cleaner” meals this weekend.

black-eyed peas & tomatoes; Kashi pilaf; collard greens; spinach with almonds; fruit salad

A few reminders:
Ashley is giving away a gift certificate to Smoothie King. You know I am craving some of that smoothie goodness. Enter by 5/10/09 at 11PM EST.
The Fitnessista is giving away a dessert cookbook by Ani Phyo. I am interested in learning more about raw foods, so this one sounds particularly appealing to me. Enter by 5/5/09 by 8 AM EST.
Before I go, I want to show you my most recent package, my Road ID:

RoadID loot
I ordered the one that you attach to your shoe–now I’ll feel a little safer running around the streets of Birmingham.
Toodles!

you have such a beautiful family!! pretty sisters
frozen margaritas and mexican food = total yumminessss
The Blueberry Orange Pancakes look so gourmet and delicious! You did an excellent job presenting them…and I’m sure they tasted wonderful and refreshing.
Every time I see the hemp protein smoothies of yours, I want to get me some hemp protein! I actually just pulled out a sheet of paper and wrote down “Trader Joe’s Hemp Protein” for the next time I go to the store, hahaha.
And you are gorgeous in all those photos!
Oh wow, such a wonderful family! Love the pictures!!!
You and your sisters are so cute! I have two sisters too.
Good decision nixing the kumquats too, haha. RoadID sounds like a very smart buy!
You KNOW I’ve been craving blueberry pancakes lately….. and that warm blueberries in my oats are as close as I’ve been able to get! You are cruel Caroline, too cruel.
You and your sisters are such a gorgeous trio! Glad you had some fun girl bonding time, that is the best! And yumm….chips and salsa? You know I got love for the chips and salsa.
PS how is the coconut yogurt?? I know we both hate the coconut water….I really want to try the flavors but i’m worried I’ll be freaked out by that funky taste yet again.
Thanks for the shouts…your crack looks lovely. That sounds so wrong!
I too am recently intrigued by raw food. Did you see Jenna’s challenge? I’m thinking it’s a go for me!
I think I like regular old pancakes the best, so then I can top them with what I want. I’ve never been one for adding fruit/chocolate to the batter. Although really, I’m not even that much of a pancake person to begin with.
Love all the family photos
Great looking pancakes! I’ve never thought to put kiwi onmy oats….sounds good!
Beautiful photos!
blueberry flavor is the best!
i also love looking at family pictures, such fun memories!
I’m loving that dip that you created!! It could give the black bean dip a run for it’s money!
Mmm crack – welcome to the dark side
All your meals look great
Banana nut is my all time favorite pancake variation but blueberry is high up on the list for sure!
Beautiful pictures of the fam!
Woah, give me some of those blueberry pancakes.. they look incredibly delicious.
The âKâ oats look extremely creamy and the kiwi was a great addition!

cute pics girl
love the wedding one its gorgeous!!!
Now you KNOW I want to try kiwi oats!
Caroline,
Looks like you are having a fabulous time @ home! Are you the youngest? Where did the rest of the fam go to school? I always cook different meals than the rest of my family too. They tend to think the food I eat is a little too “unique” for their tastes. LOL!
I’m planning on spending the summer working at Barnes and Noble, training for a 5k (I need to do some research on this), and maybe taking a digitall photography class @ the local community college. Not to mention all the beach trips, tennis games, ballet classes, salsa nights, and slumber parties with my best girlies before we all leave for college!
Have a great Tuesday.
With Love,
Emily
