Almost Like Being There
Just as Seth and I sat down to dinner this evening, a familiar sound filled the room—the Google Video Chat chime. Soon an image of my dad arrived on screen. Never one to turn down a family dinner, I happily chatted with my parents, sister Lea, and brothers-in-law as I munched on my dinner.
It’s experiences like this that make me love technology—it was almost like being back home, even though I am hundreds of miles away. My family gathers for dinner every Sunday night, and it’s one of the things I miss the most about living in Alabama, so to have this means of a proxy family mealtime is quite a boon for a homesick Caroline. God bless you, G-Chat.
Do you ever use Google Video Chat/Skype/etc.? Who do you keep in touch with?
Here’s a look at the weekend’s eats.
Saturday
Announcing the return of banana-bloob oat bran!
For lunch, I just really wanted peanut butter and jelly. It must have been because so many of you mentioned it as a kid food.
Last night, we dined out in honor of Seth’s birthday (although it’s not until tomorrow, 4/4). We returned to Hot Point Cafe, where he got a tasty pizza and I ordered a Tuscan Salmon Salad.
Sunday
I was up before the sun this morning so I could help out with the Raleigh NEDA Walk. I was unsure as to what my volunteer opportunities would entail, so I made sure to have a fiber-packed breakfast to keep me full.
With lots of hard-boiled eggs hanging out in my fridge these days, lunch was kind of a no-brainer.
This evening’s meal was a simple BBQ veggie burger with a side of creamy broccoli slaw. I’ve been craving summer food recently—anyone else desperate for it to be summer already?
With that I bid you good night, my friends. Be back soon!

Happy birthday to Seth!
I used skype few times but don’t like to seat in front of the computer, prefer talking by phone to my mom when I walk or drive.
OH yes – Skype is my daily activity
Happy birthday to Seth!! Love the pb & j–classic, yet SO good!!
Skype is the best!
Maybe you felt like PBJ because April 2 was Peanut Butter and Jelly Day!
I have Miss. Smart to thank for that…she keeps tabs on those sorts of things.
I use Skype to talk to my sister and 2 year old nephew. He blows me kisses which melt my heart.
Skype is awesome! That’s how I keep in touch with family & friends.
As far the as the makeover (your previous post), I am looking forward to it! I remember the older logo still. I cannot believe it has been over one and a half year that I follow your blog.
Finally, I have been searching for good slow cooker recipes. Have you found any good recipes?
Thanks and have a great week!
Looks like a great birthday meal!! Yum! Nothing like a good pb and j
You should come to Vegas, we are roasting here!
I’ve never tried google’s video chat, but it is nice to catch up with people who are far away and actually “see” them while doing it.
Happy Birthday to Seth!!!!!!! A great dinner to celebrate
Your salad out looks yummy, but I like your home creations better! I always forget to put hummus on salads- I must start doing this more.
LOVE your hand towels! Too cute.
I’ve never used google video chat, but that’s such a great idea! I wish I would have thought of that when I was a freshman living away from home in college. Phone calls just aren’t the same!
i love Skype. When my son was in China for 3 months we talked to every Sunday. It was a highlight of my wheel.
