Backstroke Baby

I woke up this morning with every intention of pounding the pavement…but I soon discovered that I could barely crawl out of bed. Apparently, my spontaneous beach run yesterday wreaked havoc on my calf muscles, making any sort of running out of the question today. Instead, I hit the pool this morning and re-discovered how much I enjoy a good splash session. Plus, this low-impact form of cardio actually reduced my muscle soreness. Note to self: swim more often.

I just wish I could wear my HRM in the water;)

Do you like to swim? What’s your favorite stroke? I’ve always been a fan of the backstroke.

Swimming also happens to be an excellent workout, requiring mucho re-fueling…

Wednesday

Smoothie time last night featured one of my favorite summer fruits—cherries!

Thursday

After a chilly swim, I warmed up with a bowl of hot oatmeal, topped with an assortment of goodies I found in the refrigerator.

I was in a burger kind of mood this afternoon, so I heated up another one of those portabella patties for lunch. Just as tasty as the first time.

Once dinnertime rolled around, I cobbled together a meal with what’s left in the house. The result? A wrap with bean dip and salsa! A tad salty, but satisfying nonetheless.

Alright, off to spend some quality time with Seth and the fam. Ciao!

  1. cherries make the best smoothies! i wish i had some in the house :(

  2. I definitely need to swim more. Usually I feel like a fool in the water, but every once in a while I will suck it up and go anyway because it is such an amazing workout. My favorite is breaststroke, probably because it’s the one that’s the most like doggy paddle.

  3. Running in the sand is no joke lol. It wears me out!

Enjoy the rest of your vaca :D

  4. A bean dip & salsa wrap sounds like a good idea!

  5. LOL that’s half the reason I don’t swim more often. I like to know my stats and don’t have a waterproof hrm! I’ll have to see if they make them..

  6. what does the unsweetened spiru-tein taste like? Do you add any sweeteners to your smoothies?

I can’t swim! Glad it helped your muscles… I took lessons for 9 years (!) and would love to get into it but I don’t think it’s in my future, lol.

  7. I like breaststroke the most; I find it the easiest for keeping a steady pace and breathing. I tend to go to quickly when I swim the front crawl.

Your smoothie looks delicious – I love topping them with granola!

  8. Love swimming! It’s so good for you. no impact and a total body workout. I sound like an infomercial. Glad you’re having fun!

  9. a waterproof HRM would be amazing!! i would love to use it just to compare how my heart rate goes up in teh water vs outdoors!! you look so cute on that noodle :)

  10. I love the breast and sidestroke! Sadly I only get to swim a couple times a year. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

  11. I LOVE swimming but public pool freak me out! I remember when I was little I used to always pee in them (haha) until my mom told me that if I peed there would be red stain in the pool! I never peed after that : )

  12. Swimming is SUCH amazing exercise. Good for the whole body. What a great trip :) a bean dip wrap sounds pretty awesome to me ;) . I love putting sunflower seeds on top of things like yogurt and cottage cheese- adds a fabulous crunch. Happy weekend :)

  13. Beach running does a job on the calves…good for you for switching up the workout and going swimming! :D

I’m not the greatest swimmer in the world (to say the least! haha) but I love it at the same time. Hopefully the temps will warm up soon where I live so I can indulge in some swimming sessions too. :D
