Birthday Pie for Papa Broc
Today marked a special occasion here at the B-Hut—today is my dad’s birthday! True to Yoder family style, we celebrated with lots of good food and fun, along with a few presents. Here’s how the evening went down:
Dinner at Michael’s Steakhouse
Back home for presents
And finally, some birthday pie!
I think Seth must be starting a trend in ditching the usual birthday cake in favor of pie
What kind of dessert do you request on your birthday? I insist on a Christmas-themed, frosting-laden cake:)
Here’s a look at the pre-celebration eats.
After another glorious swim this morning, I made PBJ toast, washed down with “blueberry milk” (aka almond milk + blueberry Spirutein).
Dad requested a Whole Foods lunch this afternoon. I felt a little bad that he was taking me out to lunch on his birthday…but obviously I didn’t really argue
Then came the celebratory meal. Michael’s has quite an extensive seafood menu in addition to its steak offerings; I spotted the grilled scallops and knew exactly what to order. I’ve never tried scallops before, so I seized the opportunity to taste them as prepared by a professional. They were delicious…and served with steamed broc to boot.
The Banana Cream Pie was actually an Ellie recipe.
My tweaks:
-I used skim milk instead of low-fat.
-I omitted the whipped cream. My dad lurves Cool Whip, so I put a dollop of it on his piece instead of the whipped cream.
The pie was unanimously deemed delicious, and “very banana-y.” It wasn’t bad nutritionally speaking either—it’s a good source of manganese and vitamin B-6.
Alright, I am off to complete the sad task of packing up for Raleigh. Can’t I stay home forever?

Happy Birthday, Papa Broc!!!!!
I never really request anything for my birthday dessert – we always go out for dinner, and if I’m going to have a birthday dessert, I’ll just have it at the restaurant. Although last year I did bake myself a cake, which was quite fabulous. When I was a little kid, I loved getting ice cream cakes from DQ. Yum!
Happy bday to your dad! looks like he had a blast haha
