Due to my current laptop-less state, tonight I write to you from the back corner of a university computer cluster. I have discreetly connected my camera via USB (hiding the cord with my jacket), and  my picture uploading will be quick and dirty–I will not be spending nearly as much time deliberating about “the perfect shot” tonight. I am not sure why, but I am completely mortified by the prospect of one of my peers observing my nightly posting ritual; at least it’s food porn and not the nasty kind. Do you feel uncomfortable blogging or blog-reading around others? Why or why not?

I better get onto the food, this place is getting far too crowded for my blogging comfort:

Friday

I apologize for the smoothie monotony. Perhaps I should invest in a few cool smoothie mix-ins to make my nightly ritual more diversified. Then again, choco-straw-nana is just so damn tasty.

Somehow, after all this time, I had never deigned to combine yogurt and PB2. The result is a peanut-ty dairy delight, with a texture very similar to Greek yogurt.

Then it came time to surrender my laptop to the tech whiz, so Alanna and I set out to drop it off around 1 PM, figuring it would be quick errand. FALSE. Google directions were completely off, so we ended up not finding the drop-off location until after 3 PM. After the stress of all the wandering around in the rain, we hit up Trader Joe’s. Lunch was served at approximately 5 PM. Hence, a double-decker sandwich was entirely necessary for my angry tummy.

Despite my absurdly late lunch, I managed to get hungry again. This curry included chickpeas, onions, squash, tomatoes, garam masala, curry powder, and a little ginger.

My nightly smoothie was not nearly as enjoyable without the company of my favorite bloggers. I will miss blog reading over the next few days:(

Have you tried dates and almonds together? If not, get on it. It’s one of my all-time favorite fruit-nut combos.

I’ve discovered yet another use for The Heat Is On PB: sandwiches, duh. I had managed to try this spicy spread in and on pretty much everything but its most obvious use until this afternoon. I’m thinking I might repeat this sandwich in the future, and add a little cheddar next time…

In honor of this afternoon’s Fakin’ Bacon post, I made pasta featuring the ingredient of the day. This was definitely a “clean out the fridge” meal. Random veggies and pasta always go well together in my book.

Hmm, perhaps I can catch up on a little blog-reading while I am in here…Ciao for now.

  1. I’m so glad that you finally combined PB2 and yogurt! Reminds me that I really need to order some PB2 one of these days. That stuff is too good to pass up and actually lasts a long time, so I feel it’s worth the moolah!

“at least it’s food porn and not the nasty kind.” – you crack me up :) Have a great week, Caroline!

  2. Those honey cashews! That veggie & PB sandwich (GENIUS)!

I don’t really get embarrassed about blogging or taking food photos around people I don’t know, but I always feel weird when I’m in a smaller social setting (like with friends of friends, for example) and have to explain it.

  3. I once posted my blog during class, so no, I don’t feel uncomfortable blogging…but I do feel weird blog-reading since there would be flashes of yummilicious foods and people will be staring, thinking, “What the heck is that skinny girl looking at making me all hungry?!”

  4. Haha I’m alright typing up my blog post in front of people but blog reading is another story. For some reason I get shy about it and turn the computer brightness waaaay down. I definitely whipped out my camera today in Von der Heyden to snap a photo of my books haha..there was a boy about 6 feet directly in front of me probably thinking I was on crack!

  5. your curry looks awesome :) i need to make more curries, for sure. its so yummy!

    whats your favorite cuisine?

PB2 in yogurt? brilliant, girl. truely! i have only got the samples of them.. i need more, i think.

I like blogging in private too. some poeple just think im “weird” or something.. but whatevs. its what i enjoy!

  6. I saw those honeylicious cashews at TJs yesterday. I opted for another snack mix which has those in it, plus it’s kinda spicy n sweet with little seeds and other nuts too. Those things are delish though, aren’t they!

  7. I love the combination of dates and almonds! I’m thinking a Larabar with the taste ‘almond cookie’ must be a really good one;)

  8. I read blogs all the time when I’m at Uni…but I do shield the screen and feel a little sordid looking at them lol…I think my surruptitious approach is down to the fact that so many people who don’t understand food blogging have reacted to it as ‘weird’ in the past, people who I would otherwise consider enlightened. Also, most of the people around me don’t have a great attitude towards food and would probably make a nasty or negative comment about me being ‘greedy’ for looking at food blogs or words to that effect.

Lunch at 5pm? I’d have passed out! I think a quadruple-decker sandwich would have been in order.

  9. That parfait is goooorgeous! Much better than in a cheap wine glass :P

That sucks about your laptop. Mine’s broken many times over the past couple years and I always feel like I’m wandering around without a limb! I really only get embarrassed about blogging around my “peers.” Like, I don’t mind whipping out my camera at Starbucks, but I get a little embarrassed about it at my large office.

  10. You’re too funny! I openly blog now…I’m like meh…whatever if people think I’m weird heheh. How good does the grilled veggie-spicy PB sandwich look? I need to get my hands on this spicy pb

  11. Nope, I EMBRACE the blog-reading ;)

  12. yes, I used to be very shy blogging in front of others… just wonder what others people think when they see my food porn? :D

  13. I do always feel a bit weird taking pictures and blogging in front of people. I guess because when I blog, it’s sort of like my journal and it’s personal until I post it. I don’t mind people reading when i’m around though :)

  14. I’ve gotten over the fear of taking photos of my food but blogging in public will always be a thing for me :) I just wonder what people are thinking as they walk behind the computer with all of the food pictures on the screen!

  15. Oh man, I feel embarrassed when I’m in the library sometimes, reading other people’s blogs…people are like “what is that?” But then I get over it :)

  16. OH i want those cashews!!! They wouldn’t last a day in our house, but still… Im with Jenn! The PB2 and yogurt is such a fab combo! Have a great monday :)

  17. Breakfast looks great both days! I feel awkward if people see me reading blogs or blogging. It’s kind of hard to explain to them what it is!

  18. PB2 and yogurt is awesome- I just ordered some jars…good stuff (why don’t they make PB yogurt? It comes in every other flavor!)

Hope you get your laptop back soon! I feel so weird blogging/reading blogs in public. I am usually not embaressed easily, but something about having a huge image of melted peanut butter on oats with strangers looking over my shoulder feels kind of weird :P

  19. loving the cashews in the curry!

i actually do feel embarassed about blogging, =( i don’t want to be but i am! i think it would be weird though to take pictures in the breakroom when i’m eating.

  20. No one knows about my blog still so blogging is definitely a ‘K alone time’ kind of thing. Haha to your porn comment!

What a delicious parfait! I just ran out of PB2 so you reminded me I need to place my new order today!!

  21. That parfait sounds delicious. i admit, taking the time to make a good looking parfait is something I need to do more often. It’s such a mood booster

I feel odd taking pics of food and other things around people, but if they want to know why I do it they sure aren’t asking enough questions

  22. I know what you mean…. I’m totally shy about food blogs. No one I know in real life knows about my blog and I don’t tell anyone I read them. Why is that?? Glad to see I’m not the only one!
    -A

  23. Only my bf knows I have a blog. People don’t like my eating habits, and they are judgmental. I don’t want to share with them my blog, it’s where I can be myself, and people won’t judge me and talk dirty to me just because I eat healthy.

  24. aww we’ll miss you too! Hope your computer gets well soon :) In the mean time enjoy your amazingly amazing smoothies

  25. I have to try PB2… i imagine it’s delish with yogurt!

  26. haha i think it is cute you are a stealthy blogger. it depends on who i am around, i will blog in broad daylight around some.. but others.. not so much. love the peanut topped parfait!

  27. haha, i’ve totally read food blogs in class before, but it drew way too much attention to myself! since i was taking all nutrition classes last semester, any fellow nutrition student next to me would stop taking notes and say something like, “yum! what are you reading?!”

  28. Vegan Club Sammie sounds so good :) I love your creativity with your meals, even if they are essentially the same ‘type’ (like a sandwich or a smoothie)

I feel weird about blogging in public, too. I don’t mind blogging around my dad, and my family is generally used to seeing me take photos of food. But m’beau doesn’t know I have a blog ;) because I think some people have a negative connotation associated with them.

  29. You’re getting crazy with the pb – spicy pb/veggie panini? Crazy, I say. But probably really good too :)

  30. mmmmm…..chickpea curry…that is what I want for dinner. :)

  31. I think your smoothies look fabulous. Let me know if you ever want to swap some recipes!

Or, if you’d ever like to try one of Zola’s great tasting smoothies. :)

  32. I was actually at the huge undergraduate library today catching up on my google reader! At first (last school year), I used to hide it but now I’m just like whatever ;) But, I have yet to write a post at a public location!

I really need to get some PB2! The yogurt concoction sounds delish!

  33. Hehe, I love secret blogging! I used to blog during class. So sneaky, we are!
