Born Too Late

This week, I finally took the plunge and set up a Netflix account for myself. Which movie went straight to number one on my queue? It was a no-brainer—That Thing You Do!, of course.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed movies and televisions shows set in the 1960s, hence my infatuation with movies like That Thing You Do! and shows like American Dreams. I’ve always wished I could have lived in that era—it was a decade marked by so much excitement brought on by cultural evolution. I guess I was just born about 30 years too late.

As my mother has reminded me on multiple occasions, however,  the 1960s were obviously not comprised of only Beatles tunes and American Bandstand; it was a tumultuous time indeed. Nonetheless, I can’t help but think that it would be pretty sweet to return to 1968 and spend an afternoon flouncing to “Build Me Up Buttercup.” Oh wait, I do that anyway.

If you could live in any era other than the present, which one would you choose?

Fast-forward to the present: here’s what I ate on this 18th day of June, 2010:

Despite one schweaty run, I came home to make a piping bowl of apple pie oat bran. Fujis rock my socks.

Once lunchtime rolled around, I made a pretty faboo taco salad featuring perfectly ripe avocado and homemade tofu sour cream.

Truth: I licked my plate after this meal. I whipped together a creamy pesto sauce with walnuts, tofu, and basil, then tossed it with pasta, veggies, and a Chik patty (reviewed here). The recipe shall be posted soon.

Alright, a certain movie beckons for my attention. Have a great weekend!

  6. I think I will set up a Netflix account as soon as I move to wherever I end up! My sister just took a whole class on Motown and loved it.

I would have loved to live in the 50s or 60s and to wear fun dresses every day. :-)

  8. I’m probably the only person under the sun who hasn’t even looked into Netflix. I find I don’t have the time to devote to watching movies. Plus I hate spending the money on them. Damn, I’m cheap ;)
