Breaking the Rules

As someone with a history of disordered eating, it should come as no surprise that I often get entangled in rules when it comes to eating. However, I’ve come to realize that food is a lot more satisfying and pleasurable when the focus shifts away from the “ought to eat” and more toward the “want to eat.” Accordingly, I’ve learned to break the rules when it comes to which foods are “appropriate” for specific mealtimes. Bring on the dinner-time waffles and 7AM pizza parties.

Today, for example, I woke up with a crazy craving for sweets.

So I had dessert for breakfast.

Banana soft serve and chocolate chips will satisfy any sweet tooth:)

I know, I know-such rebellion from a self-proclaimed goodie two-shoes. Who knows what devilry will come next?

Do you ever “break the rules” when it comes to eating? Perhaps some breakfast for dinner? Cookies for lunch?

Onto the rest of the day…

For lunch, I packed my favorite spring-time salad: Strawberry Fields Forever Salad.

Tonight’s dinner included an Ellie recipe, Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Orange Essence.

My tweaks:

-I used almond milk instead of buttermilk. I just don’t dig the sour flavor.

-I chose not to include the optional brown sugar and butter.

I’ll be frank. This recipe is nothing special. The orange “essence” wasn’t very strong, and the pinch of nutmeg didn’t really satisfy my need for intense flavors. Also, I had to add much more liquid than was called for in the recipe, and the end result was still a little dry. I much prefer my own Whipped Vanilla-Almond Sweet Potatoes.

If you’d like to try it for yourself, here’s the recipe: Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Orange Essence

Now if you’ll excuse me, Glee beckons for my attention.
