Broken and Repaired

Right now I am luxuriating in the ability to blog to you tonight from the comfort of my own apartment–my laptop has returned home, with a non-flickering screen!IMG_1110

Just as I was celebrating my computer’s homecoming, this happened as I exited the bus this evening:IMG_1109

Since when does a wooden-soled shoe snap in two?! Sadly, I think these heels are irreparable, so they now sit amidst the refuse of my dinner in the trash can.Perhaps I can use this as an excuse to go shoe shopping this weekend? Yes?

All footwear misfortunes aside, I am quite delighted to have my laptop back–I have clearly grown quite dependent on the internet. Have you ever been disconnected from the Web/technology for an extended period of time? How did you cope?!

I have so many blogs to catch up on, I better get onto the grub!

Monday

In the past, I have made  sweet “breakfast quesadillas” with much success. I made another one this morning on the ol’ GF, but this time I chose to give it a cute name, the “Bananadilla.” You can thank Allie for the inspiration–I just loved her idea of the “Banini” sandwich:)

Due to the absurdly hot weather, I just had to sip on this before heading out on a few errands:IMG_1097

Delicious, although I really have no idea what hibiscus tastes like, so I can’t speak to whether it boasts of intense “hibiscus-ish”  flavor. Darn refreshing though. Thanks to POM for sending it to me!

While in the computer lab this morning, I received a call that my laptop was ready. Not gonna lie, I did a little dance when I heard the news. Anyway, it was to be dropped off later in the afternoon, which meant I had to scurry over to Whole Foods. I didn’t get to meander through the aisles as I normally do, but there’s always next week:) Anyway, when I returned home, I made a quick hummus lunch, using the Curried Chickpea Hummus recipe from ED&BV. Unlike the last time I made it, I kept my enthusiasm for turmeric to a minimum, so it did not turn highlighter yellow.

The dining committee meeting was supah-short tonight, so I came home and prepared a lovely soup inspired by the Peanut Butter and Company Cookbook. I didn’t have any coconut milk on hand, so I simply substituted unsweetened almond milk with a little coconut extract–I still achieved the desired coconut-ty flavor. Expect this soup to make a repeat appearance here at the Hut:)

Don’t forget to submit those questions for the upcoming Q & A post. I am hoping to film it this weekend while I am at home for fall break:)

Goodnight all–I am off to catch up on the weekend’s events in the blog world!

  8. Haha, banadilla is too cute!

Sorry to hear about the shoe mishap! I’m glad to hear that you didn’t hurt yourself in the process though. Yeah, I don’t know how a wood-soled shoe would snap!

When I was in Vancouver in July, we had no wireless, so I had to trek up the hill to the coffee places for wireless, haha! Cannot go without my email/blogs…this may be why I bough an ipod touch =P

  9. hahah awe. poor shoe! :(

i hate it when I have no internet.. i go crazy! I usually lug my laptop to the nearest cafe. I live on my computer.. well, kinda. ;)

    bananailla? wowza!

  10. oh… sorry about the shoes… these are cute! But glad you have your computer back… life without computer is boring, blogger without a computer isn’t life! :D

  11. Love the bfast quesadilla!! And I’ve heard such good things about those teas. Glad to hear you have your laptop back but so sad to hear about the shoe- what a bummer! Hope you have a nice, relaxing night :) :)

  12. our power went out a couple times last winter and it was miserable. i was sitting at home in the dark bored and i was like “hmm. well i guess i’ll just go get online…oh wait.” sit for a few minutes. “well…i could watch a movie…oh…wait” and a few more minutes go by “::sigh:: i’ll just go take a shower…OH WAIT. there are NO LIGHTS and i’d have to shower in the pitch dark. faaaaantastic.”

needless to say, i was not a happy camper.

  18. yikes, how does a sturdy looking shoe just break in half like that? love your “banana-dilla”. reminds me of a decadent crepe i had once with nutella, banana, and honey!

  19. How can you WALK in those shoes?! I am impressed. I fall over in any sort of heel!

I was without internet access when I moved recently- for almost 3 weeks… Was.not.fun *shudders* I kind of feel weird being so dependant on it?!

  20. A couple of months back our internet went down I was so lost!
I can’t believe that happened to your shoe! I never thought that would happen to something with a wooden heel.
Love your bananadilla, things are more fun to eat when they have cute names.

  21. you and your wondrous hummus creations are too much to handle!!!

    my question to you is:

where do you draw your inspiration from? both in eating and in life?

i like your style girl, what can i say :)

  22. Oh my gosh to your shoe!! Yikes! I go nutso when I’m having technology issues – I’m so dependent on the Internet it’s sad!

“Absurdly hot weather”? Want to send some of that up here to warm up my climate and we can have a happy medium?! ;)

  23. YOUR POOR SHOE! That is most certainly NOT supposed to happen. Have you ever seen a woman’s high heel just snap off in public? Very sad.

That peanut soup looks so good. Your PB&Co cookbook is getting quite the workout!

  24. Yeah for getting your laptop back! bummer about the shoes – they are so cute!

I LOVE visiting your site – your food always looks so delish. I need to try making curied hummus – mmmmm!

  25. Curry in hummus?!?!? I LOVE it! I made potato chips over the weekend and one of the flavors I made was curry! They were fab! (I’m blogging about it later today).
I hate having no internet. Luckily I have an iPhone so I’m pretty much always connected even when my lap top isn’t.
Oh and to answer your question….. shoe shopping permission GRANTED!
