Campus Hopper

My wallet is bursting at the seams…unfortunately, it is not due to an abundance of money. Rather, I seem to be accumulating student identification cards:

I know, I know. I really don’t need to be carrying all those cards around with me on a day-to-day basis (particularly the now invalid DukeCards). Nonetheless, I like to think that each card represents not only an educational experience but also a snapshot of my life; I have memories attached to those little slivers of plastic.

Where did you/do you attend college? I’m giving you full license to brag on your alma mater:) I graduated from Duke, took summer classes at University of Alabama at Birmingham, and I am now attending Meredith College for a master’s degree in nutrition.

Aside from expanding my ID card collection, I did manage to eat a few simple meals today.

My apartment feels more like home now. Why? Because I have officially prepared a batch of oat bran in its kitchen.

Before heading out for errands on campus, I put together a simple hummus wrap. Due to my persistent lack of a dining table, I enjoyed this meal on my living room floor (as I am enjoying all my meals these days). I prefer to think of this eating situation as an indoor picnic rather than an inconvenience.

I set about more organization this afternoon and worked up a pretty good appetite as a result. My Asparagus Tofu Salad seemed like the perfect stomach-filler.

Alright, off to chill with Sethski. Good night.

  1. I went to high school at Boston University, worked at Emerson for 2 summers, and now go to Brown. And I still have my cards for all of those :-)

  2. I love the ID collection! I’m like you, I love to save them as mementos. I actually still carry around my ID from my university in Kenya because my picture is so hilariously, atrociously bad. A dishelved brown braid (this was post brown hair dying), brown scarf, and hardmouthed frown make me look like some sort of Eastern European peasant. Not a good look for me.

  3. Oh and I go to American University. In Kenya, I attended United States International University.

  4. You are posting early tonight!

I go to UA. You already knew that ;)

  5. I graduated from the University of Georgia. Loved it so much. Everyone should visit Athens, GA if they get the chance (it’s a great foodie town, too!). I also studied abroad and took classes at Universitat Innsbruck in Austria one summer, and I am about to take physics at Georgia State in Atlanta to get into physical therapy school. So there will be another school added if I get in to PT school :)

  6. I too carry around my undergrad id! I graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX- go Red Raiders!! Now I’m about to start grad school to get my MA in Clinical Psychology from Eastern IL University… just got my ID made a few days ago and felt special because it shows the date I got it and it is: 8-9-10 :D

  7. hahahaha i still have ALL of my ids too! they’re bursting out of my wallet!

i did my undergrad at Rutgers University in the dirty jerz and now I’m getting my masters in public administration at baruch college in manhattan!

  8. I carry around my card, too! I loved my undergrad at Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, MA. I actually found it enlightening going to a college comprised of all women. I still find time, once every few months, to go for a hike around the Seven Sister ‘mountains’ (big hills, really) near the Connecticut river valley. MHC is tucked inbetween the two biggest peaks, and there are awesome views of the valley all around. Hopefully you’ll get just as many chances to reminesce about your undergrad!

  9. Hehee, I have a TON of cards, too.

    Peds Dietetic Internship-St. Louis University

  18. I graduated 3 years ago and still have my one and only student ID from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. I love that it still works for the student discount at movies and JCREW. :)

  19. I may still have all three of my student ID’s in my wallet, and I graduated from my first university in 2002. Uh…yeah. Don’t ask me why I still have them all.
