Caroline's Addiction

Hello. My name is Caroline, and I’m addicted to…cookbooks.

Some people sadly become dependent on substances: alcohol, drugs, grilled hummus wraps; I, however, get my thrills from recipe compilations. The most recent addition to my ever-growing collection is this:

The Candle Cafe Cookbook

The Candle Cafe Cookbook

In my defense, I’ve been lusting after this cookbook for a while after seeing the restaurant’s luscious creations on blogs like Sweet Eats, so this was not entirely an impulse purchase. Still, my cookbook shelf is fast becoming overburdened, but I simply can’t bear to part with a single one of them. What’s your favorite cookbook? I have several favorites, but I probably use Eat, Drink, & Be Vegan most often.

In fact, two of my meals today were made possible by that very cookbook:

Wednesday

Chocolate-covered strawberries? Check. Chocolate-covered cherries? Check. Total satisfaction? Double check.

I managed to get not one, not two, but three Ls into my alphabet oats this morning: Lemon, Lime, & Larabar. Totally delicious. My taste buds especially appreciated the note of coconut in the Key Lime Larabar. CIMG7371

I spent much of the day in search of a red mini food processor–apparently the one I ordered is now discontinued. In the sage words of Stephanie Tanner, “How rude!” After several visits to area department stores, I finally ordered settled on this one from the JCPenney catalog. Anyway, for lunch, I used up the leftovers of my Peanut Sesame Hummus (ED&BV recipe #1) from Monday.

Dinner featured the second ED&BV recipe of the day, Tempeh Hashbrown Casserole. I substituted tempeh bacon for the tempeh burgers required in the recipe, which ended up being quite a tasty amendment. Fage & berries is one of the best combinations EVER.

  3. nice cookbook! I should really go to Candle Cafe…all that food always looks amazing.

  4. I think my parents will throw me out if I bring home any more cookbooks, they’re all in stacks around my room right now lol. My fav is Betty Crocker’s Whole Grains. I’ve tried almost all the recipes in the book!

  5. I have so many cookbooks. I don’t think I could pick a favourite though. Either my essential asian cookbook or my Rebar cookbook maybe? Or my cheesecake cookbook ;)

  7. I read cookbooks like they are novels! I am hoping to get EDBV for Mother’s Day. I did get a subscription to Veg Times for my bday, & I can’t wait for the first issue to arrive!

  8. I’m a cookbook addict too! I enjoy so much reading them to get inspiration to make my own dishes… It’s hard for me to follow recipes, especially in dishes that I know how to do. But for desserts or breads I stick to the recipe because proportions matters! :)

  9. “How rude!” Haha classic quote right there! I love your “for one” casseroles! They’re perfect :)
