Everytime I make one of my favorite breakfasts (yogurt berries, cereal) I think of your signature breakfast parfait (I've been reading your blog for about 3 years now). But mine aren't as organized and pretty as yours! I just swirl everything together and top with almond butter. Tastes better than it looks!

The definition of hypothyroidism I provided was not intended to be a textbook definition, nor was this entire post intended to be a scientific description of the disease. Rather, it was intended to share my personal experience wih it, including the information provided by my endocrinologist (who did indeed classify it as an autoimmune disase).
Thank you for the information.

Hopefully I won't come across as rude here. Not sure how I stumbled across this blog again; I recall reading it quite a long time ago. As a pre-med student, I am a little peeved at the incorrect definition of "hypothyroidism" you provided... Hypothyroidism is not an autoimmune condition in and of itself; what you were describing is closer to Hashimoto's disease. Calories in/Calories out applies to everyone; it is perfectly in line with the Third Law of Thermodynamics. However, what determines "Calories out" and even "Calories in" is, as we know, what makes a difference.

Consuming such low amounts of kcalories and exercising despite it would be a likely contributor to thyroid suppression. As another commenter has mentioned, some types of cardio exercise are also harmful to the thyroid. TSH is a rather poor diagnostic test for hypothyroidism; I'm assuming you've had your T3 and T4 (and reverse T3) tested as well? Also, if your hypothyroidism was indeed a resulting symptom of Hashimoto's or an autoimmune attack on the thyroid, then you would have had a serum thyroid antibodies test conducted already. (You would not be diagnosed with it otherwise.)

Yep, Pinterest has been a good source of inspiration. And it's now where I manage all my online to-try recipes. I've got a "to try" board, and then when I try it, I repin it to the "recipes I've made" board.

YUM! That grilled cheese is calling my name, and the salad is not far behind! I love Pinterest recipes. I haven't made any for a while so I need to sign back on and see what's still on my list. I have a feeling it's as long as yours!
