"Excuse me, you're in my bubble"
While flying boasts many conveniences over driving, there exists one major drawback–sitting uncomfortably close to strangers. I would never consider myself stand-offish, but I do like to have my personal space, or my “bubble,” if you will. This afternoon on my flight from Charlotte to RDU, however, my bubble was decidedly burst. My seating partner happened to be extremely overweight, so that she not only occupied her own seat but also spilled onto about half of mine. I do not mention this characteristic to poke fun at her condition or judge her–I mean only to express my extreme dissatisfaction with having to spend the entire flight with my weight on one butt cheek, so as to prevent ending up in my seatmate’s lap, and holding my breath so as to prevent spreading my sick germs. How do you feel about traveling in planes? Do you have a personal “bubble?”
As you might have guessed, much of my day today was spent in transit. Here’s what I ate to keep me going:
Monday
Graham crackers are so friggin’ delicious–I should use these as smoothie toppings more often.

choco-berry shake with strawberries, blueberries, soymilk, chocolate HempShake, & crumbled graham cracker
Tuesday
As I prepared once again to leave the comforts of home, I wanted one last meal to soothe my sniffling self. Pumpkin-banana oats seemed like the perfect thing.

pumpkin-banana oat bran cooked in almond milk, topped with raw almonds & vegan chocolate chunks

I packed my lunch for my afternoon flights, and oddly enough, I think I brought almost the identical meal that I did last year on my return from fall break. At least I’m consistent, right? The only difference is that this year I included one of these cute “hummus snacker” cups. I never saw a miniature/single-serving food item that I didn’t like:)

SB&J sandwich; veggies & hummus; apple

Sunbutter & strawberry preserves
Upon returning to the apartment, I found this:

yay for (Pop)Chip Clips!
POPCHIPS! Thanks to Corinne for sending them along–I can’t wait to get munching. Although I am plenty psyched about the products themselves, I was pretty ecstatic about the handy dandy ChipClip that was included as well–I never have enough of these things around!
After unpacking and doing a little last-minute homework, I settled in to make a quick dinner. I cut up a Moophrey patty and combined it with all the usual burger toppings to make a salad. Add some fries on the side, a little dose of vitamin C, and trail mix for dessert, and you’ve got a tasty meal.

Burger Salad; baked potato wedges; orange; trail mix

Burger Salad: romaine, tomato, steamed onion, pickles, Moophrey patty, organic ketchup, & mustard

I never got around to reading my Clean Eating magazine this weekend, so that has been designated as the evening activity. Can’t wait to try some new recipes:) Good night.

I actually hate being in close proximity to people like that. I am sort of a germophobe, so that doesn’t work for me. I like my space!
I love the burger salad, especially the ketchup and mustard topping. How creative! Seriously girl, you make the most interesting meals!
ahhh i hate traveling in tiny planes, i am SO claustro! mmm crumbled graham cracker sounds delish for a smoothie addition!
Sorry to hear about the uncomfortable flight! At least you had some goodies at home…I too recently received a Popchips package and loved the clip!
It really irks me when people spread out and invade my already meager leg-area, or use up all of the armrest. OH. And take off their shoes when they have REALLY stinky feet. There is NO WAY you can not know how bad they smell! At least wrap them up in a blanket or something.
We talked about that in my marketing class last semester–about how United is now enforcing the rule that people that need 2 seats need to buy 2 tickets. However, how you enforce that is the dilemma….awkward…
I had a graham cracker addiction this past summer!! I need to get me some when I go grocery shopping this weekend. You should COME ALONG!!! I need a full restock
See you in 12 short short hours!
oooo loving those mini hummus cups!
your dinner sounds awesome
gosh I love graham crackers.. so yummy!
I definatly have a bubble.. some days, more than others. I think everyone does, though. at least at times!
I like the portion control hummus packs. So easy to pack a lunch with. Now only if my Costco carries the Sabra ones.
I used to have a bubble, but over the years I got less finicky
I totally recgnize the ‘I need some space’-feeling! Especially in a plane;)

Yes, I need my bubble too on the flight as in life in general!
I usually not only hope my neighbor is small, but also absent!
I just had the same breakfast yesterday morning! It was so delicious! I love adding chocolate to pumpkin oats.
I’m very big on personal space, I hate people breathing close to me or over my shoulder. But I do love a good cuddle
You KNOW I’m a germophobe, girl – I HAVE to have a bubble, hahaha
I’m a big “bubble” person in every day life, so get me on a plane and I’m more neurotic than Larry David. I have sanitizer, wipes, I don’t use the pillows, tray tables, etc. Yeah…I’m a freak.
However, the only time I ever get a cold or sick is after flying, so I attribute it to the fact that planes are petri dishes of germiness. Anyway, love the salad. Think I just got inspired for dinner tonight.
That annoys the heck outta me! Just because we’re skinny and don’t take up all our space does NOT mean someone else can have it! I pay for just as much space as anyone else
Poor Caroline… luckily you had a yummy Moophrey (and chocolate!!) to make up for it!
You would think with how expensive flights are, they would be a bit more appealing! Those pumpkin oats looks delish!!!!
Your pumpkin oats looks so perfect, I thought it was a pumpkin cookie at first!
I loved the new PopChip flavors so I hope you like them as well! Those potato wedges look awesome!
I HATE when people move into my personal bubble – call me anti-social but I really don’t like it at all. I also don’t like making small talk. It feels so awkward!
love popchips. just as satisfying as regular chips without the greasy feeling!
ugh- i hate the tight spaces, circulating germ infested smelly air, and the whole scare factor of planes… sorry you were subjected to that!
loved my popchip clip too- they are the best over there at popchips aren’t they!?!?
those fries look awesome ! what a great little to go hummus cup!! welcome back!
ummm that burger salad is such a good idea! i made a rachael ray recipe once that was of the same theme, and it was so good! also, yesss for graham crackers. there is something about them…
i have personal space issues too. don’t get me started.
That’s happened to me a number of times on a few flights. :/ So uncomfortable. The close proximity to strangers is definitely a drawback to flying.
yum i LOVE tribe hummus (40 spice is hands down the best hummus i’ve ever bought!) and the single serving is such a great idea! those pumpkin banana oats look to die for–every time i go to the store, the pumpkin is sold out and it’s driving me crazy!
hope you have a wonderful day!
you and i are foodie sisters! All of this looks GREAT. i am so happy to have found your blog. i cant wait to keep on reading.
pumpkin oats look SO delicious, and graham crackers are my FAVORITE sweet snacks. I have to confess to eating my fair share of chocolate teddy grahams as well :p
I agree that seats on planes are way too small! I feel like I’m squished in there, even if there’s a smaller person next to me. I feel that way on a bus too (I commute to school daily!).
Those individual hummus packets are brilliant, I just need to find some now
Sorry to hear about the flight. I thought there were laws being put into place for overweight people to buy multiple seats. I understand it’s embarassing for them, but it’s just an overall bad situation
I hate my personal space being invaded… I can deal with it for short trips (a few bus stops, etc) but long plane rides are rough. My flight to NY was 8 hours and I had a window seat- awesome views, but the two people next to me slept the entire time so going to the bathroom was akward
I definitely have a personal bubble of space. Maybe that’s related to the fact that I’m not a touchy person? Sounds like a pretty awkward plane ride.
Love your individual hummus cups! I’ve never seen those, but they look great for trips! And your pumpkin oat bran is so pretty.
If someone pops your space bubble, they totally earn your sick germs! *cough, sniffle* I’m sick too…
