Food Blogger Patois

Today I realized that we food bloggers do indeed have our own language, with a vocabulary that is not shared with those unfamiliar with the wonders of our foodie world. Here’s a summary of what spawned this realization:

Upon entering the apartment from my exam this afternoon, I proclaimed aloud:

“Dang, I am so hangry!”

Roomie: “What? Why are you angry?”

Me: “No, not angry, hangry.”

Roomie: “What do you mean?”

Me: “You know, it’s like hungry, but to an exceptionally intense degree.”

Roomie: “Oh. OK…”

Clearly, my choice of vocabulary derives from my familiarity with Hangry Pants. What other words/phrases do you use in the food blogosphere that simply don’t translate to the real world? I’ve found that it translates to brand names too, as in “Man, I could really go for some Fage action right now.” “What’s that?” Perhaps I should assemble a food blogger dictionary? That would satisfy my love of words and food…

Alright, I am on battery power, and my power cord is buried within the depths of the car at the moment, so I best get crackin’ on the food:

Monday

Yes, I refrained from packing my Magic Bullet until this afternoon, just so I could have one last smoothie before heading home. What can I say? I like the blended beverage:)

cimg7106As I said, I was rather famished upon my return from my exam today. I used up my last Gardenburger Chik pattyand remaining veggies to make an Asian salad. This was incredibly delicious.

Before my parents arrived to pack up the car, I fueled up with my beloved Fage. No way I was letting this baby go to waste.

After a fairly efficient pack-up, my parents and I headed to one of our fave places in Durham–Elmo’s. You’ve likely seen it featured on the blog before, but tonight I ordered something completely new: the carrot ginger soup. After confirming that it was indeed milk-free, I ordered a big ol’ bowl with my meal. TOTAL WINNER. I wish they would make this a permanent menu item rather than just an occasional special. Sniff. I am going to miss Elmo’s this summer.

  1. Mmmm, everything looks awesome. Carrot-ginger soup looks great!

  2. I’ve heard of this “Bounty” and its quicker picker upper skills…

Other food blog vocab: hummbecue, ‘fu (also GC ‘fu), AB, “fake” ___ (PB, bacon, etc.) I’m also pretty sure I’d get strange looks for shouting, “PB PUFFINS!!!”

  3. Most definitely agree about the bloggie jargon. We could confuse a hell of a lot of people with it!

P.S. The soup looks lovely! And I hope you have a safe trip. :)

  4. Caroline,

Haha! This post made me laugh so hard. I was just having a conversation with my mom today and I happened to say “this moment is so bloggable”! She just stared at me like I was nuts.

I’m sure you are so excited to go home. ‘bama is calling!

Have a wonderful night sweetie and a safe flight!

    With Love,

    Emily
