Foodie Thrills
It’s no secret that I love Whole Foods. Indeed, I derive extraordinary enjoyment from browsing through its aisles, every time I visit. Today, however, was particularly thrilling. From unexpected sales to new product finds to free samples—my shopping experience was a foodie’s dream come true:
First, in the produce department, I discovered that organic Fuji apples are on sale this week. You know I grabbed a sackful of those juicy globes of joy.
Then, while meandering around the tofu case, I spotted this:
Remember when I reviewed these pre-marinated tempeh strips last fall? Ever since my review, I haven’t been able to locate this product, so when I spotted that lovely purple package, I pretty much squealed with soy-induced glee.
Across the aisle, I spotted this:
Did you know that my beloved Fage makes feta? I didn’t until today. Tempting as it was, this product find remained on the shelf—my college student budget can’t handle that price tag.
And finally, on my final flounce to the cash register, I noticed a free sample station—featuring wheat berry bread. It was gloriously pillowy upon first bite…so I may have taken an extra sample or two. Delicious.
Have you had any foodie thrills lately?
All this shopping provided the perfect stress reliever to my preparation for my big presentation tomorrow. Speaking of which, I need to review my slides again, so let’s get crackin’.
I think it’s safe to say that my favorite oatmeal combo is banana-blueberry with almond butter. I made a particularly large batch this morning and stirred in the bloobs at the last minute of cooking in order to prevent a sludge-like breakfast.
Once I had returned from my blissful shopping trip, I made my Waldorf Salad, with the addition of chickpeas for protein. I also grabbed a handful of FlatOut crisps for some carb action.
I pulled out yet another Gardein goodie for dinner this evening, the Tuscan Breasts. Aside from the sophomoric entertainment provided by purchasing a product labeled “breasts,” these mounds of faux meat were also dang tasty. I was pleasantly surprised to find only 1 gram of sugar per serving on the nutrition label—typically tomato sauce-laden products have large amounts of added sweeteners. I have one breast leftover—any ideas on how to prepare it in a creative way? We all know how I feel about leftovers…
Alright, I am off to obsess a bit more about my presentation. Good night.

My latest foodie thrill has been and will be the chocolate justins nut butters. They’re all amazing and nuts are always the first ingredient!
Haha, I love your tribute to Whole Foods
So many delicious products you found on this trip! I had no idea that Fage made feta but I can imagine that it’s pretty pricey.
I love that you call them “bloobs” – that oatmeal combination is fantastic, for sure. And I love those Gardein breasts…haha – coincidence that I put both of those in the same paragraph? I’m too immature for my own good, it seems.
Good luck on your presentation!
I was out today at a Co-Op Market that I hardly ever go to because it’s farther away from my house but while there I found my two favorite flavors (hard to find) of Lara Bars! Peanut butter and Jelly and the Tropical one. I may have spent a good 45 mintues perusing the store too, one of my favorite past times. Fage Feta though, that sounds like a find!
fage makes feta?!?! well when the yogurts are about 2 bucks for 6oz I can imagine that the feta is no easy dollar!
i do love whole foods, and could legit be there for HOURS! so bad sometimes haha
I really like the gardein products, I have that chicken one, its pretty tasty!!
Hee hee, foodie thrills…only we foodies will understand. I recently found out that kabocha is on sale at the closest korean store. Christmas came early!
haha I can totally relate to foodie thrills! I remember finding Artisana coconut butter and contemplating it for 0.2 seconds before grabbing it and throwing it in the cart
Thos Gardein products are pretty good! They don’t remind me of meat at.all. but I think that’s a good thing
fage makes feta cheese? oh.. i need to check it out!
good luck with your presentation, I have one today too!
god, i also love WF! yesterday i came upon coconut milk yogurt on sale . . . of course i had to buy some to try! (haven’t yet but of course i’ll share the results!).
i also bought THREE random dark chocolate bars to try (josh and i eat a little square pretty much every night after dinner). ohhh the variety makes me so happy.
I love Whole Foods too!
I have been meaning to make your Waldorf Salad – hopefully this weekend!
I have not tried a Gardein product I didn’t like – I have the tuscan breasts at home and can’t wait to try them.
I didn’t know Fage made feta! I used to love the tzatziki they made, but they changed the recipe and it contains beef gelatin. I’m not vegetarian but that kind of grosses me out.
Hmm…how about a gardein + cottage cheese “chicken parm-style” sub? Or stuffed baked potato? Or have it with spaghetti?..
Glad to hear I’m not the only person who sqeals in a grocery store over a much desired food find!!
FAGE MAKES FETA?! Too bad it’s so expensive
i luvvv gardein products. i just discovered them about a month ago. i also share a love of whole paycheck but i try to stay away. i blow too much $$$ there
