Freezer Foraging
Yep, it’s that time of year again. As the school year draws to a close, I am faced with a recurring task—I must eat all my perishables before moving day. The freezer and fridge must be emptied before May 16th, or else they meet their tragic end in the trash can. Considering my distaste for wasting food, I have once again made it a personal mission to eat my fridge and freezer clean over the next 12 days.
Just like last year’s clean-out operation, the main objective is to clear out the freezer. I got a good start today with a frozen naan pizza (see below), but I have about a year’s worth of frozen fruit and veggies lurking in the corners of my icebox—I’ve got my work cut out for me. Oh well, I never took on an eating challenge I didn’t like:)
What’s in your freezer? In addition to the items mentioned above, you can check out my frozen goods in last summer’s video.
Today was another full day of studying. As per usual, I balanced work with play by taking some extended cooking breaks. Check out the fruits of my labor fun:
After a fabulous 6-miler this morning, I returned home to my apartment for a big bowl of oat bran. Ginger went into the mix today to complement the ginger-y agave cashews that went on top. Clearly, I am mildly addicted to these cashews.
Lunch was another “recipe in development.” Most of the ingredients are obvious from the pictures below…but the secret is in the sauce, my friends.
As mentioned above, I relied on the freezer for dinner this evening. I pulled out a naan pizza provided me by the folks at Tandoor Chef. I like naan. I like pizza. Seemed like a good idea to me…and I was totally right. This pizza was amazing! The pillowy yet crunchy crust combined with the spicy-sweet sauce made for a fab meal. Get used to seeing naan pizza here at the Hut…I have three more boxes waiting for me in the freezer.
Study break over. Now I must return to the world of social psychology. Ta-ta for now.

I’m in the same boat! It’s actually kind of fun, if you ask me
My freezer has random gluten free cupcakes and cookies, and a I have 2 tupperwares of fudge. That’s going to be interesting to eat through.
Freezer: Quorn samples I got, ice-cream, fish, broccoli, bagels. I’m hoping I will manage to eat through all of them by next week!
I’m doing the same thing! haha along with all the other college food bloggers
I loveee Naan. Apparently it’s really easy to make too! You’re giving me ideas
Oh, and loved Seth’s guest post!
My freezer is mostly frozen fruit and maybe a smidge of Haagen Dazs frozen yogurt……Who can resist though?
Goof luck on your finals!
What a task! Last year we had this really severe icestorm where the electricity was knocked out for a good 7 days. That meant that all refrigerated and freezable items had to be eaten within 2-3 days (we kept it in the cooler, but it still didn’t do the trick as well as the fridge/freezer.)
It was *tougher* then I thought it would be, but totally achievable.
At least you have some good eats to be consumed. The naan pizza looks delish!
To paraphrase an old Life cereal commercial………Feed Seth…he’ll eat anything!
Naan pizza?!!!! That sounds so good… I haven’t had naan bread for a while.
In my freezer: a ridiculous amount of frozen blueberries (I am talking 8-9 bags!), quorn, Amy’s burritos, wraps and veggie burgers. I need to start cleaning it out- it is packed, but I am not sure what is in there!
You did a pretty good job working with what you had! That naan pizza looks really good… I never buy frozen pizza. Don’t know why!
(I love that Seth’s mom comments. Ari’s fam does too!)
I am not even moving but feel like I need a freezer/pantry clean out as well. It is amazing what is in there!
Time to get creative!
Woah that is one yummy looking pizza! I cant believe that the year is finally ending, i only have seventeen days left until i graduate its insane.
M’beau called me today and said, “I no longer am in college.” He just graduated, too. It’s crazy to hear those words.
My freezer mostly has stuff of my family’s, but I do have some frozen brussels sprouts, banana slices, pineapple, and mahi mahi fish.
