Fresh Food & Family

Tonight I write to you from lovely Lake Martin, where my family and I have been spending the holiday weekend. While the weather has been a little ho-hum (rainy and a nippy 70 degrees), we have still managed to have some quality family time, accompanied by a bevy of fresh food. I have mucho pictures to show you, so let’s get crackin’.

Saturday

After a turbo elliptical session, I re-fueled with a pumpkin-banana shake. Totally dug the pudding-like texture.

With the final slurp of my breakfast, I headed out the door with the family to the farmers’ market. With my recent decision to re-incorporate eggs into my diet, I made sure to pick up a package of local, cage-free, grass-fed eggs.

We arrived at the lake and immediately made a trip to Wally World (aka Wal Mart) for some groceries. I cobbled together this lunch with our purchases:

Mom, Lea, and I set out to a local art festival only to discover that it had closed due to the inclement weather. Instead, we explored a nearby chapel and lighthouse.

Dinner-time rolled around soon enough. Grilled tofu rocks my socks.

Post-dinner snuggling:

Sunday

No better way to start a leisurely Sunday than with a bowl of oatmeal.

The sun decided to show up this afternoon, so Lea and I seized the opportunity to play on the jet ski and lounge on the boat.

Mid-day re-fueling:

It’s not Memorial Day without some burger action, right? Admittedly, my version was not exactly traditional—I used an Amy’s burger topped with avocado and salsa on a whole wheat English muffin. I also had an unpictured glass of chocolate soymilk:)

Harry Potter now beckons for my attention. Good night!

  4. I’ve always wanted to go to Lake Martin! Whenever my family goes, I’m never in town (they live in Huntsville, I’m in Auburn.) It seems like an awesome place and looks like you’re taking advantage of it! Have fun! :D

I am envious of your trip to the farmer’s market! I need to persuade my mom to go with me soon.
Oh, and Naturally More? Definitely my favorite peanut butter!

  7. Banana in a smoothie = thick. Pumpkin in a smoothie = possibly even thicker than a banana. Both?? I can only imagine! What if you did pumpkin + banana + avocado, my other fave thickener? I think the blender would break.

  8. Looks like you are having a great weekend with your family :) Your pumpkin smoothie sounds delicious – wish I had some pumpkin around here so I could try it out.

Agreed, I wish it were less rainy at Lake Martin last weekend. But we had fun boating in the rain and at the Art festival at Children’s Harbor. I took a few pics and will be posting them on my blog soon.
