Game Night

Imagine the following scenario:

It’s 5:44 PM, and my phone rings. It’s Seth.

“So what do you want to do tonight?”

“I dunno-what do you want to do?”

“You wanna play a game?”

“Yeah, that sounds fun.”

“What game should we play?”

As you might expect, all my suggestions were word-centric:

“Taboo! Scrabble! Scattergories!”

“No, we need more people to play those games. How about Jenga?”

“No, you’re better at that than I am. There must be a level playing field here.”

The conversation continued back and forth for several minutes, and we still haven’t come to an agreement.

“Let’s just see what they have at Target.”

So, in light of the fact that we will soon be making that journey, what are your favorite board games/card games? Two bored twenty-somethings need your help.

Despite my indecision regarding evening entertainment, I was quite certain about what I wanted to eat today. Let’s take a look at the day’s meals.

Yet again, I have no classes on Fridays this semester. I took advantage of this extra leisure time this morning to make a batch of protein pancakes. I spiced up this stack with a little orange zest and sliced almonds.

After doing some major bargain grocery shopping (saved $19 today!), I returned home to make a lunch inspired by everyone’s favorite Hungry Hippie. I tweaked her recipe by adding chopped apple, substituting whole wheat couscous, and adding a few spices. ‘Twas fantastic.

Dinner, however, was an original Broccoli Hut creation, my Walnut-Crusted Tofu Fingers. As long as I had the oven fired up, I also made a batch of spicy kale chips.

Alright, I am off—let the games begin!

  1. Everything looks delish, but I’m especially digging that roasted acorn squash! Awesome combination of flavors there :) .

  2. How about a card game?

  3. Bananagrams is the best! And it’s named after a fruit. Clearly a winner….
    :)

  4. Monopoly!!! I used to play with that with my brother. Our game would lasts months because he let me go into debt…thousands of dollars in debt :) . All 3 meals are so beautifully styled…go Broc!

  5. woohoo. yummy lunch – glad you liked the stuffed squash idea. game nights are so fun!!

  6. I love me some classic Scattegories– you totally reminded me how much I miss that ancient, but fun game! That, by far, would have to be up there with monopoly and apples to apples :-)
I have a special place in my heart for old- fashioned games not in the modern era….

  7. ahaha i love LIFE.. such a fun game!! love you lunch- go squash!

and i’ll have to try your squash recipe…because i love peanut butter on everything. :)

  10. We like games around here too! The ones me and my husband like the most to play together are scrabble, bananagrams, rumikub, and skip-bo (this is a card game like uno, I think you would like this one Caroline!). We also like yatzee.
Which one did you guys choose?

  11. I love game nights :-) My favorite game to play is funglish !

  12. the crusted tofu looks fantastic. and yay for free Fridays!! i thought you were going to say that you were free because of another snow day and i thought the east coast was getting a little too lucky!

you just reminded me that i haven’t made pancakes in ages. yours look great. i can’t wait to have some tomorrow morning!

  13. … Is the peanut butter on the squash?! Some way, somehow, I would never have imagined the two together or ever paired them together myself. Intriguing!

I’ve always loved board games, but never had any family or friends that were into them, even when it was rainy or we were stuck somewhere with nothing to do… “LIFE” was always a favourite. :) As well as the classic “Monopoly”. I really liked “Cluedo”, too!

  14. I love apples to apples, but thats more of a larger crowd game too. I hope you guys had fun. What a beautiful lunch! I haven’t been making enough squash lately- I’m going to add it to my food list for next week!

  15. I must try those BH original tofu fingers!! And I am a scattegories girl through and through. Maybe you guys could pick up that Bongo game? It’s word-centric alright and I’m pretty sure it can be a 2 player game :)

  16. Mmm, those tofu fingers look delicious! I will definitely be trying that soon!
