Going to the Chapel…

…and I’m gonna get married–eventually. Truth be told, I’ve never even had a boyfriend (we’ll save my feelings about that for another time…). Nonetheless, I’ve given significant thought to what I want my future wedding to be like, especially now, during wedding season. My two older sisters are both married, so I’ve had the privilege of observing the wedding-planning process twice. Yes, I’ve witnessed the excitement of the engagement, the giddiness of picking out a china pattern, the stress of selecting a wedding gown, and the insanity of a frenzied mother-of-the-bride. As a result of all this, I’ve already selected my future wedding gown (a Monique Lhullier all-lace frock), china pattern (of which I already have one place setting), color scheme (lavender and ivory), and time of year for the blessed event (spring). Now all I need is a groom:) I’m sure I’ll change my mind about at least some of these things, but it’s still fun to ponder. What was your wedding like? Or, if you’re not married yet, how do you imagine it?

Alright, now that I have revealed myself as a wannabe bride, let’s get onto the eats.

Tuesday

Seriously, Blueberries ‘N Cream is the shizzz. There’s a reason it’s one of my favorite Spirutein flavors. Perhaps I should invest in a tub of this flavor?

I was way short on time this morning before class, so I just grabbed the bar that was on top of my mammoth bar pile. It happened to be a most joyous Publix find–Peanut Toffee Buzz Clif Bar! I had to wait months to find this bar due to the peanut recall; I was pretty miffed that I couldn’t try it to include in my Clif Bar review post. However, I’ll be sure to update that post soon with my thoughts on this flavor. Now I just need to find the Chocolate Chip Peanut flavor…

After class and running some errands with Katie, I came home to prepare an old classic–Goddess Garbanzos. Yeah, I know, I really need to branch out of my ED&BV fixation. Still, this was a phenom wrap.

In the most recent issue of Everyday with Rachael Ray, a recipe for a Warm Seven Layer Salad caught my eye. I made my own version this evening for dinner with what I had on hand. The black beans and tempeh bacon made for an awesome combination! To be honest, I think I liked this meal mostly for its photogenic quality–it’s like one of my breakfast parfaits in salad form!

  1. Your wrap looks delicious…I haven’t been following this blog that long, so I’m not sure what the recipe is. If you get time, could you reveal the secret to the Goddess-ness that is the Goddess Garbanzo wrap?

I haven’t been close to being married, and in fact I’m pretty anti-girly stuff in general, but there’s something about weddings…I work in an industry where I report on bridal trends (colors, decorations, invitations, etc.) a couple times a year, and I LOVE IT! Personally, I would just elope and come back for a big party, but I love everything about the whole idea (yes, I am a walking contradiction. Whatever.)

  2. gosh, that wrap looks gorgeous. but why does your wrap has stripes? lol.
Sorry, I’m not a wedding girl at all…in fact, I hate weddings. the whole frilly thing and the craziness with the dresses and cake and color coordination and gifts and what-not bores me to tears. As you can tell, I don’t really plan on getting married. heh. But if I do, I’d really like to skip all the formal traditional procedures and just elope or something.

  3. Hello! I’m a lurker and just had to comment today because of the wedding theme in today’s post- I’m also a huge advocate of weddings. I’ve been obsessed since 2 distant cousins of mine got married in the same summer (’07, so for 2 years).

I’m always saving pictures of wedding dresses, cakes, chapels, without a groom too, and I <3 looking at wedding hair, makeup, and shoes. sigh. Sometimes it's so hard waiting with all the wedding goods out there, but we're still young, right? In my opinion, it's better to wait until you find a really good one ;) . I had my first boyfriend earlier this year (and I'm 21 but had a few dates previous to that), and only for a few months. I didn't particularly enjoy those few months, but at least I know now what I don't want ;) .

Ahh at least we will have a thoroughly planned wedding, which means a greater chance of getting what we want!

I love your blog by the way (writing style, humor, and of course the food)!

  4. I LOVE monique lhuillier wedding gowns :) no worries about the bf front (i’ve never had one either, a few ‘together’ type relationships but that’s it). i love the zucchini with yogurt combo – my mom makes this great armenian dish of stuffed zucchini that you dip in this yogurt sauce = amazinggggg. the cherries look delicious too. i have a new love for FROZEN cherries. so good!

  5. enjoy being single!!! it’s way more fun while you are young….seriously! (i love your future dress and china though!)

  6. I am not into weddings I think it’s mainly because I don’t like to be in the center of attention. I actually talked to my boyfriend and if we ever get married, we’re getting married at city hall. I even told him not to get me a diamond ring!

  7. You might just love this. A few of our wedding pics are on our photographers website:

    http://lynnphoto.com/deepwood/wed/wed2.htm

Click on “Sarah’s Wedding.” Yup, that really is me.

Don’t break out of the EDBV rut. I like having company there ;)

  8. yumm! both the wrap and the salad look mighty tasty! And that Clif falls under the category of one I have yet to try…looks good though! Oh and I’m so on the same page as you in terms of food shopping as my little indulgence. I mean if you’re not buying new shoes why not go pick up a new jar of P.B. & Co. right?!

  9. I always used to want a wedding on the beach…..but now, I have no clue! I just have to have goofy, classic songs playing and lots of people on the dance floor at my reception! And my dress has to make me feel beautiful and elegant….but fun too!

I NEED to buy ED&BV now…….I just can’t go on anymore, without it!! haha!

  10. I’ve never been a wedding-fantasy kind of girl and I think about wedding less and less now.. I just want to be with the person I love and enjoy a daily family life. Wedding is more for my parents than for me I guess. ;)
    your wraps look delicious~~

  11. I have to return ED&BV tonight…I think I might take a picture of EVERY page to save all the recipes since both me and the roomie have been loving it.

And I just found the Peanut Butter Chip last week! AND I think I spotted Peanut Butter Crunch in a different store but I was already checking out…must go investigate. I can send you one if you like.

  12. Boy, my wedding was 11 years ago but it turned out just how I wanted it to!!

Love the layered salads and that was one of my favourite Clif Bars!

  13. Oooh, well this is my first time reading your blog, and that wrap looks yummyyyy. I don’t know why I haven’t bought ED&BV yet, I keep picking it up and putting it down. I love Dreena too, its weird.

I’m glad you’re so excited for your wedding! It was never a big thing to me, and it seemed like a lot of money my parents spent on something that wasn’t that important to me (not that the act of getting married wasn’t important, I just could have had a much smaller wedding). Good luck on finding that groom, haha.

  14. I sort of know the feeling. Almost everyone I knew in high school is married or getting married in the next year. Most of my coworkers are the same way.

As for me, I am not married yet but it will be in my future in the next few years before I head to grad school. I would like a simple wedding. Outdoors.

The wrap looks tasty! I need to start making wraps for my lunches at work…

  15. I had a super-classy Vegas wedding (1 year ago Saturday!). Actually, it was quite tasteful (at the oldest chapel in Vegas) and perfect for us: we have friends and family spread out all over the country; didn’t want to spend a lot; wanted something personal and private. Plus, it was wedding + honeymoon in one! I never had the big wedding fantasy anyhow.

That smoothie looks awesome. Where do you get all the different flavored Spirutein? Love the salad parfait too :)

  16. ummm would you please plan my wedding for me! we are currently in the church research phase and it is SOOO not fun. i am learning so much about all the crazy rules of various religions. my only tip to you (after you find the groom of course) is live in the city (or at least the state) where you plan to have the wedding. ugh. there are only so many “field trips” i can send my mom on in nor cal while we are living in nyc…haha.

now the dress and flowers, thats going to be the fun part :)

  17. I can’t wait to get married but I’ve got to find a man first ;) You and I can go on thr prowl!

OH! Salad parfait?! I like the sounds of that! You’re so creative!!

  18. Stop tempting me with the tempeh bacon – I couldn’t find it at Trader Joe’s yesterday!

I’m totally a wannabe bride! I want an October wedding with an autumn color like dark red. I have my gown picked out too :)

  19. I’m Eastern European, so my wedding will have lots of drinking and dancing :)

  20. My friends and I made a really (hilariously lame) pact we would all get married at museums in SF! ahaha! So it would either be at the de Young museum which is beautiful! And is in Golden Gate Park! Or if I marry a Jew, the Jewish Contemporary Museum! And then a big reception with TONS of dancing and an open bar!! Yaaaa buddy!!

  21. i do not even KNOW how to picture my wedding. my family is super mormon, my boyfriend is straight edge and i like to drink and so do my friends. i really don’t know where that would lead to! i guess i will play it by ear :)

no need to branch out when you are eating food that fabulous! that wrap looks soo tasty! loved the layered photograph!

  22. Hmm all I know about my wedding is that I want it to be outside!
    Goddess garbanzo? Yes please.

  24. Caroline,

Weddings? I LOVE WEDDINGS! I’ve been subscribed to Bride since I was 8 years old and I have FOUR wedding binders stuffed full to bursting of clippings. I probably change color schemes once a month at least (or every time I pick up a Martha Stewart Weddings). Only the groom seems to be lacking… I need someone in my life to get married so I can help out and release some of this pent up nuptial energy. ;P

In fact I’ve lately been obsessing over the weddings in this blog:

    http://www.i-do-it-yourself.com/

    Enjoy!

    With Love,

  26. I love what you wrote about weddings! The dress you have picked out is GORGEOUS!! And lavender and ivory sounds beautiful. Ah, you are getting me so excited! I think I’m going to start planning in the late summer/early fall!

You know, I still haven’t tried the Goddess Garbanzo wrap! I was obsessed with that dressing last year but haven’t bought it for a while. It needs to make a comeback!

  27. Is it wierd that I haven’t really thought about how I would want my wedding to be, and I’m almost 30? Probably because I haven’t had a relationship where there was the potential to get married. You are way more prepared than I am! Perhaps one day I’ll get my turn to plan my wedding, but I’m not holding my breath.

I love the colour of that smoothie – it looks insanely good!
