Google Love
Hello all! I never got the chance to post last night due to the Superbowl. Since when do I care about football, you ask? I don’t—I was assigned to watch it as part of one my classes. More specifically, I was assigned to watch the commercials for the purposes of analyzing them with regard to psychological theory and marketing techniques. While I was generally disappointed by the commercials this year, I must give kudos to Google for their “love story” ad. What can I say? I’m a sucker for romance.
Which was your favorite Superbowl commercial this year?
Rewind to the Friday night, post-Kroger field trip…
Friday
When I finally returned to my apartment, I was cold, wet, and extremely hungry. Tempeh bacon saved the day—BLT makes for one speedy and satisfying meal.
Saturday
Despite the snowflakes falling outside, I was majorly jonesin’ for a smoothie, a tropical one in fact.
As I complained via Twitter a few days ago, I am kinda bored with all my black bean recipes. Lucky for me, Jessica provided me with the perfect solution to my black bean blues: black bean hummus!
For dinner, Seth and I went to a Durham favorite for dinner, Chai’s. I ordered my usual soba noodle bowl with tofu. Perfect for a chilly night:)
Sunday
I opted for banana-berry oat bran for breakfast. I am finding that stirring in frozen fruit at the very end is the perfect way to avoid my usual tongue burns when I eat oatmeal…
I relied on the freezer for lunch and found some edamame. Add an apple, cashews, and a simple dressing—voila! Lunch.
Dinner was a snack-y affair. Seth and I made fresh pineapple salsa, guacamole, and homemade tortilla chips for our Superbowl menu. I also heated up some refried beans for a little protein action.
Now I must go finish The Omnivore’s Dilemma…I’ll try to check back again later with an update!

Hello and welcome! I have created this blog for people who love food, especially healthful, vegetarian food.
I currently attend college in North Carolina, where I am studying English and psychology, although I plan on pursuing an additional degree in nutrition after I graduate. Ideally, I would like to combine my love of food and the written word someday as a health writer.

you have the funniest hw assignments! we tivo’d the game so we could fast forward through the lamer commercials. we did watch some of them though. i’m sad i didn’t see the whole google commercial, i was too busy texting lol!
I wasn’t really impressed with the commercials either
And I had a tropical smoothie the other day too- must be something about the snow…
I liked the google commercial, too. I think my favorite was the little boy in the Doritos commercial that said “Keep your hands off my mom. Keep your hands off my Doritos.”
Chai looks delicious!
I’ve only seen replays of the commercials, but I love the one with Betty White, and the Letterman one
mmmm cashew butter on a WW bagel sounds awesome! such a cool project to analyze commercials!! that google was was very cute!!
Awesome, glad you tried out the black bean hummus idea.
I LOVED the Google commercial
I also liked the “Green Police” one. A girl could dream…
Superbowl homework?! I only caught about 5 minutes total… Ari called me in for the Who, and then the very end to see the Saints win.
As a former Communications major, this was the first year I didn’t have to watch the commercials as an assignment. Of course I watched them anyways
My favorite was the one with the groundhog for monster.com. I may be biased tho because I’m currently looking for a job lol. Or I’m just a sucker for animal commercials!

My favorite commercials were the Betty White Snickers bar and the Etrade babies. Other than that, none of them really stuck in my head!
