Happy and Beautiful

Good afternoon, lovelies! I am writing to you this afternoon because a few of my fellow bloggers have been kind enough to bestow two awards on me.

First, Sarah of the Shu Box passed on the Beautiful Blogger Award to The Broccoli Hut. As part of this award I am to reveal seven facts about myself. I’ll do my best to come up with a few that you don’t already know…

1. I’m a dog whisperer.

OK, not really, but I really enjoy showering my two dogs, two fur-nephews, and two fur-nieces with affection.

2. I wear socks almost 24/7. Although at one time I had moderately attractive feet, since my love of running began, my feet have become quite ugly and should not see the light of day.

3. I can’t really call myself a “girl raised in the South” (aka GRITS). While I have lived most of my life in Alabama, I spent the first 8 years of life in Pittsburgh, PA. Hence my lack of a Southern drawl.

4. I’m listening to Clay Aiken right now. And I don’t care who knows it.

5. I have an unhealthy addiction to shoe-shopping. You might recall this fact from a post last summer.

6. I have a lot of nicknames. It started out with Carnie, then expanded to Cran, Cran Apple, Crannie, Crannie Puss, Francine (as in the Arthur character), Frannie, Frannie Pants…the list goes on.

7. I haven’t had coffee since high school. I abused coffee and caffeine during my teen years, but once I got to college I switched to tea…I haven’t sipped on a cup o’ joe ever since.

Julie of Julie GoLean was also sweet enough to pass on a happy award to me the other day. This award also has a few rules attached to it:

1. list 10 things that make you happy.

2. try and do at least one of them everyday

3. tag 10 bloggers who brighten your day!

A few things that bring a smile to my face:

1. Warm laundry. No matter how hot it is outside, there is no joy like making a nest out of laundry fresh from the dryer.

2. The Little Couple. I hope there are a few TLC fans out there who know what I am talking about. Somehow I never tire of watching the sweet relationship shared by Bill and Jen.

3. Chivalry. Yeah, I am stealing one of Julie’s ideas, but what can I say? I appreciate some door-holding and the occasional rose.

4. Polka-dots. I can’t explain it. They’re just endlessly appealing and smile-inducing.

5. Rachael Ray. Some people hate her, but I love her. She reminds me of my older sister Lea: slightly spastic, a little loud, and very lovable.

6. Nut butters. As I’ve discussed before, I typically have several open jars of nut butter at one time. So creamy, so nutritious, so friggin-fraggin tasty.

7. Running. It makes me feel strong and proud of my body. A good combination, no?

8. Music. Anyone who knows me will tell you that you can’t have a conversation with me without my mentioning at least one song or singing some relevant song lyrics. Life needs a soundtrack, people.

9. Farmers’ markets. Call me crazy, but I genuinely enjoy spending a morning chatting with local farmers about squash.

10. Being a bloggerina. Duh. Reading your comments and e-mails always brings a smile to my face. Thanks for reading:)

Thanks so much to both Sarah and Julie for thinking of me for these awards. I would like to pass this award onto ALL of you. So, tell me about yourself. What makes you happy?

  1. LOVE ALL THESE THINGS! esp. the life needs a soundtrack – i could not agree more! i secretly wish my life was a musical and people would break into song on cue.

love your fabulous, creative and beautiful blog my dear caroline. have a great weekend :)

  2. I love your answers! And I fully support your love of polka dots, nut butters and shoe addiction.

Right now I’m happy to get the weekend started with dinner with my parents!

  3. We share a lot of the same things that make us happy :D (Running…warm laundry…all of it actually)

  5. haha! a bloggerina :) i love it! and your nut butter collection is one to be reckoned with! i wouldn’t know what decision to make every morning!

  6. I could spend all morning at the farmers market talking and drooling over food! I am so jealous of people in cities with huge farmers markets.

  7. I love reading posts like these! Pittsburgh, huh? I went to IUP (Indiana University of PA) not too far fro Pitt. Heard of it? If warm laundry doesn’t make someone happy, then they’re weird. I won’t judge you on Rachel Ray, but I’m not sure I agree :)
    Have a great weekend!

  8. Francine! I loved (actually keep that in the present tense) Arthur. Best PBS cartoon, for sure.

  9. I enjoy reading these posts! I love the Little Couple too — they are adorable. You can tell that they really love each other.

  10. LOVE your facts!! I grew up in Johnstown outside of Pittsburgh and went to school at PITT and Duquesne. Although I live in the “triangle” now, too, I will never be a “southerner” due to the lack of accent. lol

    Happy Friday, hun! :)

  11. I absolutely adore the puppy picture! melted my heart AND made my day all at the same time. :)
