Hey! I came across your blog and I've been reading up on all of the neat posts and recipes you have. I saw this was pretty detailed as far as a smoothie recipe goes, so I was wondering if you had any tips for thickness and flavor without using protein powders.

My main problem is that I use a banana for thickness and it overpowers anything else (cherries and blueberries, peaches, etc.) that I use, so essentially I don't get to taste them. Is there a way to increase the flavor of berries while still getting a thick smoothie? (Still not using a protein powder.)

Thanks for the help and nice post! :)

Shelby: Be forewarned that the Alive! mix turns green. I promise it tastes good though!
VeggieGirl: I knew you would appreciate the smoothie feature...and many thanks for the LH recommendation.
Ruby: I have much practice, so I guess that's how the science evolved. So Delicious is wonderful!
Danielle: Glad you like it!
Alaina: I've always wondered if smoothie place employees have any special tips on how to make them. They always come out so perfectly when I buy them.
EatingBender: Puh-lease, you have no need to be jealous of my abilities--Bender's Blenders are awesome.
Nikki: I have never made a green smoothie, so thanks for the tip--I'll have to try it one of these days!
SportsNutritionLiving: I hope you try some of the techniques! I am sure you will come up with some great combos!
Tara: Yes, I definitely use smoothies as my little nutritional "insurance policy." It ensures that I get adequate protein, calcium, and calories in my diet--things that always seem to be lacking. Glad you like the LH!

You are the smoothie queen!!! I'm really going to make a point to get into it like you. I know the extra protein and calories wouldn't hurt me either...actually help. ;)

I LOVE the living harvest vanilla spice protein mix. I bought that a while back when you first blogged about it.

Thanks for all the smoothie advice!

Oooh I love this post, Caroline! As I have always been envious of your smoothie-making ability, it was fascinating to read about the exact process you go through and some of your favorite products used to create them!
