Home (Bitter) Sweet Home

Since my last post, I have arrived safely in Birmingham. Normally, I am ecstatic to spend time at home, but this summer I am experiencing a slightly different mix of emotions. Part of me wants to savor every morsel of family time; the prospect of graduate school in another state presents a major obstacle in spending extended amounts of time with my loved ones . However, another part of me wants to return to North Carolina—let’s just say that adjusting to a Seth-less life again will surely prove to be difficult.

In response to such a paradoxical medley of emotions, I thought of the only logical solution: I ellipticized while singing at the top of my lungs (don’t worry, it was at home, not at the gym!). As I’ve mentioned before, singing is my preferred form of expression (after writing, of course), so engaging in a little “exercise karaoke” seemed like the perfect means of catharsis.

I can thank a few of my iPod heroes for my improved mood:

Thanks, boys. You rock.

What do you like to listen to when you’re feeling a little down?

Another thing that always cheers me up? Food. Duh.

Friday

I was assigned to use up the remaining frozen fruit before leaving Saturday morning. It was tough, but I managed to get it done:)

Saturday

Basic breakfast before leaving the beach.

For lunch, my parents stopped at Arby’s (translation: zero vegetarian options), so I requested a Wal-Mart stop too, so that I could pick up some BHut favorites.

Once home, I cobbled together a salad that was a hybrid of two of my favorite salad recipes.

Before bed, I made a simple strawberry smoothie. Note to self: soy milk> skim milk for smoothie-makin’.

Sunday

Just a quick cereal bowl before church.

After my exercise karaoke session, I made tofu salad wrap, complete with a little pickle action.

Strawberry Fields Forever!

Alright, Breaking Bad is on soon, so I must bid you goodnight. Be back soon!

  1. bahah clay aiken ;)

    welcome home!

  2. Your room is SO clean! Mine looks like a tornado came through! You’ll be back in NC soon enough–don’t be sad!! I’ve only had the little Dr. Krackers once (the apple flavor) and I devoured them so darn fast.

  3. Aw, you and Seth :( It sucks when the boys are far away. At least you have the beach boys!

  4. Sorry to hear your’e down, hon. It’s a strange moment — that moment between graduation and life. I have every confidence you’ll sail through it like the smart and sassy woman that you are!

  5. Sorry about your Sethless summer. I’m sure you guys will find time to visit each other though! And summers always fly by :)

  6. welcome home…will Seth come visit? I rock out to Glee when I am down :D

  7. Can you guys visit during the summer? It stinks to want to be in two places at once. :-/

Those Dr. Krackers are my fave. Love the buttery flavor of the seeded spelt crisps. :D

  8. another pick-me-up: back street boys
they were on the news this AM doing a concert and the crowd was about forty people and they were all late 20′s or late 40′s and singing along with every word…

  9. distance makes the heart grow fonder!!

  10. For me, it was always the opposite: going to school meant leaving the boy, and it made the college experience a lot harder. Hope you adjust quickly and plan many trips with Seth!
