I Have Ugly Feet

I have ugly feet, largely due to my recent infatuation with running. I’ve always had flat feet, but it was only recently that I noticed that they have become quite “rough” looking. Remember the pretty tootsies from this post, way back when? That was when I was running about 10-15 miles per week, and my feet were still moderately attractive. Now, my weekly mileage is about 3 times that. I’ll spare you the “after” photo, but let’s just say that it wasn’t until recently that one of my toenails grew back. According to the podiatrist I visited earlier this summer, narsty feet are quite common among runners; in fact, some choose to have their toenails removed just so they don’t have to deal with the complications involved–can you imagine never having a pedicure ever again? Tragic! Have you ever had any injuries/physical annoyances related to your sport?

Most of today was occupied by list-making and packing. I still have more to do, but I left the fun stuff for tomorrow: packing clothes, shoes, kitchen stuff, and food. Yes, I fully intend on bringing my beloved nut butter stash with me:)

Onto the grub:

Tuesday

This was a do-over smoothie. The first one was prepared with the Vega Smoothie Infusion, but I just couldn’t stomach it. Better luck next time.

Continuing with this week’s comfort food theme, I decided some scrambled tofu was in order this morning.

I was having a craving for Ants on a Log for lunch (aka celery spread with PB and topped with raisins), but my inner carb queen was also beckoning. Hence, the creation of the Ants on a Log sandwich.

Clearly, I am ready for the arrival of fall–this soup is brimming with autumnal flavor. I think of VeggieGirl every time I enjoy that pumpkin seed butter–thanks again to VG, the nut butter fairy for introducing it to me:)

Off to doctor up my feet–I am embarrassed to walk around with these ugly little monkeys attached to my legs.signature

  1. I wish I could run that much without my bones hating on me! I had some weird skin/nail growth when I was running about that much that’s for sure! I still have random callouses on my toesies.

    Are you moving in tomorrow?!

  2. The chili looks delicious!
I totally hear your problem with flat feet, I have to be really careful when buying running shoes to make sure they protect my feet from too much shock on the pavement.

  3. My feet are pretty messed up right now. They’re are all calloused down, blistered, and three toenails that are black and falling off. As for other injuries, I’ve had countless. Bursitis, ITBS, pinched nerve in my neck, torn ligaments in my ankles, broken nose, ruptured my thumb ligaments, etc.
I must say that I absolutely love pumpkin chili – it looks very good right now.

  4. hahah my feet are HIDEOUS!!! it’s so weird because i saw on the today show or one of those that 50% of women hate their feet loll. but seriously, running gives me weird blisters and makes my toes look roughtoo- not to mention i have beginning stages of bunions (sp?). anywho – your ants on a log sammie looks delish! i used to eat ezekiel bread allll the time but switched over to those arnold’s thins but now i miss ezekiel again!

  5. I’m not a runner but I have flat feet. I can’t remember any injury related to sport I think… maybe because I’m too nice to myself?! :D

  6. When I used to jog, my shoes always ended up cutting my heels before they had time to completely heal again. :( I have too many soccer boo-boo stories to tell :P

That pumpkin bulghur chili looks amazing. Pumpkin seed butter? Where is this in my life??

  7. Hey little lady!
I must say: Gosh I am glad to know I’m not the only one who has hat “ugly foot” problems!!! At the moment, my feet look b-e-a-utiful. But earlier this summer, not only did one toenail turn purple, one of my toes turned purple too! I thought it was going to fall off!

Oh but a foot file is an amazing thing. I highly recommend it :)

P.S. I’m workin’ on your photoshop thing today, so expect it smetime in the next two weeks!

    Love,
    Katie

  8. That’s some seriously impressive mileage ~ 45 miles a week is simply amazing, and you should be very proud of yourself! I was never much of a girly girl and so never paid much attention to my feet anyway, but rest assured that years of running have made them truly hideous…blisters, black toenails…I’ll spare you the rest ; )

I’ve hated every Vega product I’ve tried…they just resemble bitter grit to me! That pumpkin bulgur chilli on the other hand…I could just lick it off the screen.

  9. I actually love my feet! Weird but I think they are cute haha.

  10. I have ugly feet too, as well as (I fear) a soon to be missing toenail.

  11. That is such a great idea for a sandwich. sounds yummy!

  12. Mmm I love your ants on a log sandwich! What a great idea! I love ants on a log but the celery is never satisfying by itself.. I think the sandwich would do the trick!

  13. I’ve had SO many injuries over my years of training! Most of the time though you were expected to grin and bear it. Cut throat!! ;)

Ugly little monkeys – haha! I’m sure they’re not that bad!

  14. I can’t imagine not having toenails! That means you only have 10 nails to paint for the rest of your life ;) When I ran, my feet got pretty rough, but I always had all my toenails. The bottom of my feet are not pretty, even though I’m on a “break”!

Creative sandwich! Way to get the ants on a log and carb fix in one.

Bulgur chili sounds like total comfort food, yumm!

  15. girl I am soooo with you! my feet are HIDEOUS from my running obsession… I’m missing a toenail on one food, have the worst calluses ever, and have a black toenail on my other foot.. needless to say my feet are not impressing anyone anytime soon!

  16. My feet are THE gnarly. Thanks to lots of running, and before that years of gymnastics (which also did a number on my hands; so many calluses!).

Love the sandwich! Such a brilliant and original yet simple idea :)

  17. The soup looks soooo comforting and good right now!
My feet are also supremely ugly from running! I have one adorable black toe nail that is constantly threatening to fall off entirely and some seriously delicious looking blisters/rough bits/peeling skin. Just a pure delight!

So – that hummus I have – Holyland – is delicious but it’s local to Minneapolis so I don’t know if you can get it elsewhere. If you can I would defo recommend it though, it’s so good!

    Have a great day love!

  18. Aw I love ant on a log! Such great childhood memories. :)

  19. i tore my achilles back in the height of my soccer days…it took FOREVER to heal, but alls good now :)

  20. I have nasty feet too! They’re really flat, and I have gross toenails. One, in particular, is really prone to turning black. People actually will ask me if they’re okay or if I have some sort of foot disease. Yuck.

  21. My feet are completely ruined too. Partly from running and partly because I just had ugly feet to begin with lol. It’s rather have ugly feet than anything else though!

Great idea with the ants on a log sandwich!

  22. don’t get me started, i hate ALL feet! i think feet are just not cute no matter what. i broke my humerus snowboarding, overshot a 65 food jump. boo. that pumpkin chili makes me long for winter time!

  23. Removed…THEIR TOENAILS??!? That’s so gross.

Your ants on a log sandwich though, that cracked me up. Awesome.

  24. Ha, my feet are messed up from my own clumsiness! I probably lose a toenail a week from stubbing them :P

Okay, I am LOVIN that ants on a log sandwich! So creative! I have yet to find something that doesn’t taste great between two pieces of bread :)

  25. I have weird calluses on my feet from running, too. Ick, feet are just gross.

Pumpkin chili sounds amazing. I’m going to make that as soon as it gets cold around here. I can’t wait until it’s finally fall!

  26. [...] that I have accumulated an absurd amount of shoes–I suppose it’s because they make my ugly feet slightly more [...]

  27. I trained karate for two years, and the tae kwon do for one year. I messed up my knees with it. Now, it’s hard to ride a bicycle for an hour and a half, without feeling the consequences for a few days. I hate that, but I try to fix the damage.

  28. I’d have to say that my entire lower body is just a mess from skating all these years. And yes, my feet are on the nasty side for sure!
