I'll Never Learn

As a self-proclaimed garlic-lover, you would think that I would have learned by now–raw garlic bites back…for hours after consumption. Tonight, just as every other time I make a batch of hummus, I enthusiastically threw in an entire clove of minced garlic into my Creamy Basil Dressing, and now I am regretting it. Be thankful that you are reading my thoughts via a computer screen and NOT conversing with me in person–I am sure my breath is quite “fragrant.” Does this ever happen to you? Do you know of any remedies to kill wicked garlic breath?

Otherwise, today was just like any other Monday–class and never-ending chemistry lab. Ugh. At least I had some fresh summer eats to cheer me up:

Sunday

Tragically, this was the last bit of my Nutiva Berry HempShake. A re-order is on the immediate agenda.

Monday

I had about 5 minutes for breakfast this morning…so cereal it was. Does anyone else mix their cereals? I rarely have just one cereal in my bowl, largely thanks to my grandmother who introduced the concept to me many years ago. Hmm perhaps I should introduce her to Me and Goji?

Hunger was in full-force by the time I returned from lab. I grabbed my tub of lemon hummus heaven and served up a Waldorf salad on the side. Nom, nom.

With the sudden basil abundance in my garden, I need to use it up, pronto. Hence, tonight’s garlic-tastic Creamy Basil Dressing (ED&BV). I should have heeded Dreena’s instructions to use “1 very small garlic clove.” Oy. Loved the addition of almonds in this recipe!

ZICO! After seeing my review on CalorieLab in which I mildly bashed VitaCoco coconut water, the kind folks at ZICO offered to send me some of their products to change my mind about coconut water. I have high hopes for the mango flavor:) Have you tried ZICO products?

Alright, I am off to prepare for my day of shadowing tomorrow. Ta-ta for now!

  1. Hey, I am a kimchi eater. I know the woes of garlic-breath. And I have TONS of remedies! Here’s some: chocolates, nuts, coffee, tea, any kind of bread that isn’t garlic bread, crackers, and of course mints and gums.
And oh my god. What a sweet and appropriate and cute card from Em! COOL!!!

  2. haha i LOVE garlic! i think the best way to get rid of garlic breath is brushing your teeth. but i dont know my sister eats so much garlic it comes from her throat and that takes days for it to go away so i really don’t know. haha

man you’re always getting samples! you’re so lucky!

  3. I have this problem too…I just end up putting way too much garlic in my hummus or is it way too much hummus in my lunch? I always brush my teeth after lunch and ate a mint with no success. Sorry, can’t help there :) .

Back when I used to eat cereal regularly, I had 5 boxes and mixed them all together. Soooo good because you get all the different textures, flavors, and sweetness levels.

The broccoli lady is very cute!

  4. OK I need Dreena’s book…that dressing looks devine!!!

I have been dying to try coconut water…let me know how that Zico turns out!

  5. the hummus and the vegan waldorf salad look soo delicious. i’m jealous of your big box of coconut water! and soy joys look so cute…too bad they’re not vegan! :(
and i love garlic too, you’re not alone! i just seasoned my baked sweet potato rounds with garlic salt and curry powder. if i ever find a remedy to get rid of the breath…i’ll report to you!

  6. I always have and always will be a cereal mixer!!! I just can’t imagine eating a big bowl of ONE type of cereal, hahahah…the tragedy!

That hummus sounds amazinggg, the garlic’s worth the stench! ;)

  7. I LOVE GARLIC. I suppose my atrocious spearmint gum habit neutralizes my garlic breath, however.

  8. I always mix cereals! It’s so much more fun that way. Your dinner looks so yummy, even with the abundance of garlic. The presentation is so pretty!
And what a nice package–that card is adorable! I’ve never tried ZICO. I’m interested to hear what you think :)

  9. Yay for packages! I’ve never tried coconut milk. Just curious, how did you get involved with doing product reviews and getting those free samples? I’d love to get involved and help out!

I’m a big fan of garlic too… to get rid of the taste/smell, I think a good strong mouthwash is key! (:

    Have a great night! XOXO,

  10. great packages and surprises!!!

LOVE garlic!! i just dont eat it when i know i’ll be smooching later :) heheh i also brush my teeth like a mad woman and use listerine whitening mouthwash :)

  11. The waldolf salad looks nice, i havent tried it before, but it looks really simple to make.
I never eat garlic if I am working or going out the following day. Im so conscious of the smell on others, that I would hate to think I smell like that lol. I dont think that brushing teeth or mouthwash works because it comes out of your pores.

  17. I am pretty sure I have garlic oozing out of my pores by this point…between my garlic and basil obsession, if I don’t marry an Italian I am in trouble :P

    great package! :D

  18. We have tons of basil and I don’t know what to do with it! Any suggestions?

  19. I always get garlic/onion breath. What’s worse is the garlic/onion hangover the next day where it still lingers in your mouth no matter how many times you’ve brushed and rinsed!

The presentation on your dinner is so pretty! FUN packages!! Have a blast today – I can’t wait to hear all about it!!

  20. one of my favorite things in life may possibly be mixed cereal bowls. i dont think i can ever have a bowl of cereal with only one variety! when i lived in london, the place i stayed at had those cereals in the big self serve canisters and i would get a little of every single cereal every day! (could have been why i gained all that weight..)

funny you should post that garlic story today, my boss ate the rankest garlic burger and it smelled up the WHOLE place! i can still smell remnants of it. why does garlic have to be so potent? it tastes so good!

    cute and fun surprises!

  21. You HAVE to make that little broccoli man part of your header!!!! It’s SOOOO cute!

  22. i love mixing my cereals! its fun. and you can always create something NEW which I love.. Or putting cereals ontop of pumpkins/squash for a little crunch, and a strange/new breaky! So fun. so delish. so healthy

  23. omg first off, I love love love mixing my cereals hah! for some reason it just does something extra for it
secondly, try eating an apple after having garlic…I have found that it def helps alleviate the stink!
thirdly, that dressing (the basil one) looks amazing! would you be willing to share the recipe?!

  24. Why oh why do I not have ED&BV yet? That basil dressing looks amazing.

  25. no good garlic breath tips!! sorry!! i just avoid it if i can….though everything tastes SOO much better with it!! Unfortunately, garlic really bothers my Mom, so most the time, it is not in our home cooked meals!!

i love your delicious plates, Caroline!!! everything is so pretty! hurray for akmak crackers too!!!

    have a great night!!!

And no, I’ve never had zico coconut water, but they always sold it at my old bikram studio! it sounded amazing after a hot session, but I was always too cheap to buy one! :)

  26. I was eying up that creamy basil dressing in ED&BV – looks like it would be awesome on alot of things. I’m thinking substitute for pizza sauce!

And that card with the broccoli is totally adorable :)
