In Season: Pomegranates

As a new feature here at The Broccoli Hut, I will be posting about various in-season fruits and vegetables, providing information about their nutritional benefits as well as their culinary possibilities. For today’s edition, I’ll be discussing one of nature’s most heavenly jewels: the pomegranate.

Preparation

As indicated by this post when I first attempted to crack open a pomegranate, the process of extracting the arils can be a little tricky. Watch this helpful video for a few tips before you hack into your first pomegranate.

As a topping for waffles or French toast

As a oatmeal mix-in (either juice or arils)

As a glaze for tofu

As a salad component

As a yogurt mix-in

  3. mmm i LURVE pom arils. you covered my top three uses – yogurt, pancakes, salad. they’re messy to cut but soooo worth the trouble!

  4. I love pomegranate, my favorite way of eating them is just popping the seeds by handfuls in my mouth, sooo good!
    With the juice I like to make Pommegranate Sangria (with some mint leaves), deeelicious!
