Just Keep Swimming

doryI’ve been heeding Dory’s sage advice these days;  I just keep swimming. It’s rained every morning since Tuesday, so running outside has not been tops on my list of things to do. While I have run in the rain before and enjoyed it, it’s a whole different story when the rain arrives amidst 85-degree heat. Exercising in a sauna is not my idea of fun. Anyway, my alternative form of exercise is using my dad’s Endless Pool (which is like a treadmill in pool form). Not only have I rekindled my love of swimming as a result of the crap-tastic weather, but I also have had the eerie experience of swimming in the rain–try it sometime. What’s  your rainy day exercise routine? I don’t belong to a gym, so running gets tricky when the rain gods won’t cooperate.

Here’s what I’ve been eating to fuel all that splish-splashing:

Thursday

This is pretty much the only brand of “ice cream” I eat anymore. It’s crazy-delicious, comes in mouth-watering flavors, and it’s fruit-sweetened. As my 11th grade English teacher would say, “You can’t beat that with a stick.”

Friday

Is it wrong to have pudding for breakfast? If it is, then I don’t want to be right.

It’s the weekend, so my usual culinary laziness has set in. I think hummus and guacamole could quite possibly be one of the best combinations known to Man.

…and the torpor continues. I mentioned this brand of yogurt a looong time ago, and tonight was the first time I had had it in over a year. All it took was one taste, and I remembered why I like it so much. This lemon flavor is good, but my favorite is still the Orange Creamsicle;) I wish this yogurt were organic, but at least it’s fruit-juice sweetened and free of rBGH. Full review here.CIMG0226

Quick Q before I sign off: Does it look like my camera battery is dying to you? I just charged it today, but I still notice a “dream-like” quality about my pictures. Add another item to my “tech toys that hate Caroline” list.

Have a truly fabulous weekend chicos and chicas. Ciao, signature

  1. oh my god HOW COOL is the endless pool! I mean I have no idea if it’s cool or not because I’ve never used it haha but it looks way too cool for school!

I’m officially jealous of it haha. The only endless pool I have is my bathtub that I can’t fit in..

    have a great weekend :)

  2. running in the rain is cool- i ran through a slight drizzle and it was refreshing. haven’t run through a downpour so i’ll have to get back to you on that one!

  3. I belong to a gym, otherwise I would never get my workout in—it rains all the time here ;)

Turtle mountain’s ice cream are my fav too! I’m trying to taste all the flavors they have, mmm!

Hummus and guac is awesome, but I need to try it together in a sammie!

  4. I am HUGE fan of all things custard related. I am so on board for tofu pudding and cereal combination. I’m thinking chocolate tofu pudding with PB puffins?

  5. That Dory picture just made my day when your blog loaded. She’s such a happy looking fish!

That’s so cool your dad has an endless pool! I’ve always been curious if they actually work for swimming laps. I can’t run right now so my only form of exercise is always inside – the stationary bike!

  6. Your photos still look great and clear to me!! But i mean hey, any excuse to get a new cam right?? :D

  7. i really should take up swimming. it is such a good workout. i am just super scared of the pool at my gym. on rainy days and on sunny days i usually work out at the gym! haha.. yeah, so adventurous. orange creamsicle yogurt sounds dreaaaamy!

  8. PBJ tops hummus and guac for best creation in my book. It’s just so classic.

  9. A dream-like quality, eh? Maybe your eats are just soooo dreamy ;) (sorry couldn’t resist)

  10. Aww, Dory! She is so cute and I love that quote =)
My form of exercise has always been indoors. I don’t do hard cardio like running or cycling, but I love my rebounder! They aren’t cheap but all you need to do is 10 minutes which is supposedly equal to 30 minutes of jogging. I also do a lot of strength training moves that you can find online or in magazines.

That breakfast looks so good! I haven’t tried that Sunshine flavor yet but I so want to! Mmm and cherries! My favorite!

  11. wow that sounds like a really fun exercise change!! I wish we belonged to a gym so I could swim some laps on these hot days

your eats are always so creative! especially your tofu pudding breakfast :) Love it!

  12. Pretty sure nothings wrong with having pudding for breakfast! I need to have my raw chocolate pudding on waffles again..

  13. Ok, I am SO making that sandwich to have for one of my clean meals today :D

Wanted to tell you that I made a pot of your overinight crockpot pumpkin oats Thrusday night to have for Friday morning’s breakfast and it was DA BOMB girl! Very filling, stick to my rib kinda oats..loved it! Will be making this one again over and over :D

Thanks so much for all your great recipes!

  14. ohhhh hummus and guac is one of the best combos everrr– i’ve been doing plain avocado and hummus in my salads and it’s awesome :-) I’ve been having the same issues with my camera lately, poor thing has been through a lot haha.

  15. haha awww Dory! I love love love that movie and she is such a classic character! Swimming is such an awesome thing to do and always seems to help you feel great. its one of those things that really works every part of your body and is great for your respitory system. Oh and that is SO awesome that your dad has one of those endless pool machines. Those are sooo cool!
p.s. hummus and guac is hands down one of the greatest combos around!

  16. Mmmm, i always love your double-decker sandwiches. What kind of bread do you use again?? It looks so fluffy! :)

  17. I have a dance teacher who used to ALWAYS say, “Just keep swimming.”

    She was Russian. and AMAZING.

  18. I have to give that ice cream a try….anything that is said to be “crazy delicious” must be worthy of a taste test. ; -)

  19. I didn’t notice it in the pictures before you mentioned it, but I can kind of see what you mean by “dream-like quality.” Don’t you one day dream of getting those Canon SLR cameras?! They are so awesome. I still have my Fujifilm Finepix, though.

But oh my gosh, you have struck so many wonderful chords with this post! Mango salsa?! Yes, please! (I actually had some yesterday. Yummm.) I really like those fruit-sweetened ice cream pints too. Carob peppermint used to be my favorite, but now stores never stock it. Last I checked, it was still listed on the Purely Decadent site but who knows where it actually went. But thanks Caroline, now I am dreaming of your ice-creamed shake!

Guac and hummus? Oh yes, I believe it must be absolutely wonderful. Ever tried guac and PB in a sandwich? I once had a veggie sandwich at a cafe with guac and miso-PB spread, and it was pretty rockin’.

  20. I have never seen the cascade yogurt… i am heading to your review in a minute.

I miss H2H !! I haven’t had it in forever- Thanks for the reminder!

It did look like your battery was dying now that you mentioned it!

  21. Beautiful cherries! And I loveee Cascade fresh yogurt!
