Kickin' Back with Kombucha

I type to you this evening as I sit on the couch, watching Golden Girls, and, yes, sipping kombucha. My day was decidedly less productive than yesterday, but I still managed to edit a paper to be turned in tomorrow and do some intense grocery shopping; I made trips to Publix and Whole Foods today. The pantry is bursting at the seams, and the refrigerator shelves are overflowing–just the way I like it:)

On another note, I ordered a food processor today from Amazon. I ultimately decided on this one (in red, of course). Thanks for all your recommendations!

Here’s how I fueled my day of food foraging:

Wednesday

Yet another satisfactory hemp creation…expect more in the future, as I re-stocked on hemp today.

After a hilly run in the heat this morning, I was craving something cold and simple–so cereal it was. It’s strange to think that I used to eat cold cereal for breakfast everyday; now it’s kind of a rarity. Anyway, I opted for a new variety today, Kashi Vive. It contains more sugar per serving than my beloved GoLean (10 grams vs. 6 grams), but it contains a good dose of calcium (20% RDA), a nutrient I monitor closely in my diet. Overall, I enjoyed the taste, but I am still not keen on the idea of dried yogurt in my cereal…cimg7184

I took a little inspiration from Kath’s Curried Fruit + Nut Chicken Salad again and made a tofu salad version for lunch. Those are Mary’s Gone Crackers on the side.

Who knows how long those clementines have been in the fridge.

My dad and I hit up the Whole Foods salad bar before our shopping extravaganza. The highlight of the meal was definitely the spinach orzo salad…or maybe the kombucha. What are some of your favorite Whole Foods prepared items?

No pics of the grocery haul today, as the temperatures have risen sufficiently so as to prohibit any extra time out of the refrigeration–I didn’t want my Oikos to go bad! You’ll see the goods soon enough anyway.

A few giveaway reminders:

Dulcie is giving away some Holey Donuts to a few lucky readers! That vanilla coconut variety is just calling my name….Enter by 5/3/09 at midnight.

Heather is giving away some chia seeds, an item I am quite anxious to try (chia pudding, anyone?). Enter by tonight at midnight for your chance to win.

Well, that concludes tonight’s post. I am off to read for pleasure for the first time in months.

C Yode, out.

  1. Whole Foods salad bar is the best, if only it didn’t cost a fortune :)

I have that same cereal on top of my fridge. I told myself I can’t open it until I eat up the other boxes I have already opened!

  2. Kashi Vive? Okay, I’m missing out on Whole Foods AND delicious cereal. Darn! LOL!

  3. Good choice on the mini food processor!

Any thing out of the Whole Foods bakery is OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!

    Enjoy your pleasure reading!

  4. I’m generally not a fan of yogurt bits in my cereal either. I would rather just eat yogurt as is. I find the little bits sink to the bottom of the bowl, and it’s not like they soften up or anything.

  5. Sounds like you are having such a nice time at home!! Ohhh, summer….it’s so close!

How was your first Kombucha experience?! I gotta get bold and try that flavor, but I really liked the strawberry kind!

And any type of prepared tofu from whole foods always does me in! I love it all!

  6. How do you like those synergy drinks?? I’ve only tried one and it tasted VERY intense! But good in a strange kind of way.

  7. Mmm, I’ve been to the whole foods salad bar like 2-3x/week over the past couple of weeks… Some standouts that I can remember? Lamb stew, indian rice pudding, jerk chicken, squash souffle were really good from the hot bar… from the cold bar, vegan chocolate mousse and YES spinach orzo salad, and I think my FAVORITE prepared item is the asian sesame noodles salad. :D

Have fun reading for pleasure :) What are you reading?

  8. I’m a food blogging failure when it comes to WFs salad bars – I haven’t made the leap to the dark side yet! I have my WFs hot bar V card still!
