Making It Count
Today marked a significant day in every Duke student’s life: the schedule of classes for the spring semester was released. It happens every semester—we all wait in anxious anticipation for what our academic future might hold. This time around was particularly important to me because it’s my last chance to engage in the registration mayhem. With nearly seven semesters under my belt, I can’t help but think that I better make this one count. I spent far too many hours today scouring the lists in hopes of assembling the perfect schedule, both in terms of content and timing (read: NO 8:30 AM classes allowed). So far, I definitely want to enroll in a class about the politics of food and one that discusses the disparities of healthcare—both pertinent to nutrition, I think. What’s the most memorable/enjoyable class you ever took?
In addition to my usual Monday activities (gym, laundry, Whole Foods), I had to squeeze in a quick trip to the doctor’s office for blood work today; as a result, I am SO behind on my to-do list. Let’s get to the grub, quick!
Sunday
Spirutein, you make the world a better place. Love the color of this concoction too:)
Monday
Now that I look back on this breakfast, I am kicking myself for not adding pumpkin butter. Oh well, I suppose there will be other days to eat breakfast…
Homemade hummus seems to be the perfect lunch for my Monday schedule. Hence, its weekly appearance here at The Broccoli Hut.
After my dining committee meeting, I realized the number of items still remaining on my to-do list, so I grabbed a salad from the salad bar and came back for some heat ‘n eat soup.
Unfolded laundry and a cooking project are calling my name. Good night!

I cant’ wait to choose classes for next semester. I’m just starting college, but my favorite this year has been Epic Poetry, even though I find it the hardest because I’m awful at English Essays
bleh folding laundry is not my favorite chore.. haha I always put it off way to long.
your photos are always look gorgeous
you capture your food so deliciously!
I slept outside once to get classes I wanted in college – this was before online registration (now I’ve completely dated myself….)
Good luck putting together your semester!
Politics of Food sounds like a great class!
I’ve really wanted to try that Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin bread, but I can never decide if I’d rather have it as an English muffin!
I have Food and Energy bookbagged–is that the class you mean?! Looking through classes definitely took up over an hour of my precious studying time….grrrr!
Glad you enjoyed my brock post, for obvi reasons
Most enjoyable/memorable class was probably a philosophy class called Marriage & Family. The prof was great and it opened my 18 yr old eyes to what liife could look like 10 yrs down the road.
That little dollop of PB or is it AB next to the nannas looks so lickable
I really love my Anatomy/Physiology class. It’s crazy time-consuming but it’s so interesting and the professor is awesome!
Wow. You guys are fast! Spring schedule out already? Lucky! I was just wondering about when ours will be released.
Politics of Food! Sounds interesting, but you probably know a lot about it, don’t you?
I wish I could take some of your classes…. i haven’t take classes for two years now and kind of miss it now!
my favorite class was economics in high school which leads me to where I am now!
AH! Our class schedule just came out yesterday, too. I had made a to-do list, involving studying and the like for last night… but when I started looking at the schedule, I’m pretty sure I let a couple of hours pass me by trying to figure it out with my degree.
Some of the most memorable classes I’ve taken:
+Honors Seminar: Youth, Culture, and the Purpose of a College Education
+Intro. to the Essay (very creative class with a HILARIOUS professor, and I just felt so connected for once with my peers)
+Intro. to Ethics (loved the texts & the discussion forums!)
Hope you get into the classes you really want!
good luck! hope you get the classes you want!
I always looked forward to figuring out my class schedule! Good luck! My favorite class was Biomechanics, which makes me sound like a dork, but I found it so interesting!
I definitely miss chossing my class schedule
Being a graduate is no fun lol. The coolest class I have ever taken was Chemistry of Food at McGill University- it was taught by 3 profs who would take turns giving lectures and they were all hilarious. Plus the material was super cool- like when we learned what the molecule for a trans-fat looks like and how it is formed.
Hope your schedule works out to your liking!
Your meals always looks so colorful and well balanced…love it!
Hope you get the schedule you want! I agree, definitely no early classes – although I didn’t have a choice because I played field hockey, and I HAD to have all my classes done by 1:00 so that I could practice and travel to games in the afternoon.
It’s 20+ years later, and I am still not a morning person!
I hate when unfolded laundry calls my name! Hopefully you’ll get a bit of a break from your busy schedule soon! BTW that cherry smoothies sounds right up my alley.

worrrrd scheduling classes is tres tres stressful! glad it’s the last time! Sounds like you have some great classes on the agenda!
best class I ever took was most definitely History Of Rock & Roll yeah babbyyy
Hmmm…I loved my Memoir and Literary Journalism classes. I’ve also taken a health disparities class, which was really informative.
I wish I got to sign up for courses again, just one last time! All the emails went out this week and I was like “oh wait…actually I’m not signing up for classes this semester.”
Your Monday breakfast platter looks like a big smiley face.
Wow, I’ve taken alot of classes. It’s hard to pick my most memorable. I might have to go with a 4th year biology course “Marine Biology & Oceanography” – every third lab, we spent the entire afternoon out in Howe Sound in the school boat doing work. It was awesome to get outdoors like that. Likewise, my Plant Ecology class was similar, as we got to go on a variety of field trips to see different plant ecosystems (bog, alpine, etc). I’m all about classes that get outside the classroom and give you more real world experience.
