Margot the Beast
For a 6-pound dog, Margot is a pretty fearless creature. She walks right up to dogs several times her size and engages them in play; she embraces strangers like they’re her best friends. Over the past month and a half that I’ve had her at home with me, I’ve seen her cower in response to only one thing—the vacuum cleaner.
In her first few encounters with this “monster,” she let him win; she sat in the corner with eyes wide open, observing in fear as I beautified the carpet that she routinely soils.
This week, however, she put her big girl panties on and faced her nemesis:
And so an extended session of growls and high-pitched barks ensued. I bet my neighbors love Margot and me.
That settles it. Margot is quite the beast.
If you’re a pet owner, what’s one thing he/she does that makes you laugh? If you don’t own any pets, tell me one thing that made you smile today!
Another thing that makes me smile? Food!
This morning, I made a blueberry-studded stack of protein pancakes. I was quite pleased with the way they came out, so I got a little carried away with the shutter button.
After some very successful grocery trips, I came home and made a colorful rendition of my Asian Tuna Salad. I didn’t have any of the Trader Joe’s salad dressing that I mention in the recipe, so I improvised my own with toasted sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and pineapple juice.
Tonight, I made a simple bowl of Peanut Butter Chili, served alongside some homemade baked tortilla chips.
Let the weekend fun begin!

ummmm hello peanut butter chili! Chili is one of my fave foods in all seasons and this is definitely making next week’s menu!
I need to meet little Margot!! Love the rainbow tuna salad!
I totally need to make your pb chili again- so good! Frank bites the vacuum cleaner sometimes
He is afraid of very scary things like plastic bags and anything with bristles (tooth brushes, hair brushes, etc
).
my dog is soo funny with our vacuum too! he growls and hides from it hahah. take out a laser and he goes crazy after it too!
My dog barks at the broom, mop, vacuume, even swiffer!! one time she started barking at the wind. I love her haha. Peanut chili?? I AM IN
We might be puppy shopping and it’s 99% Margot’s fault
Love the pup pictures.
I don’t currently have a pet but can definitely remember some fun experiences with my bird from high school years, Kirby. My brother used to be able to run side to side in front of his cage, and Kirby would run with him and follow his every move with such passion and intensity that we couldn’t help but laugh!
Those pancakes look amazing. Love the “bite” shot, in particular. Have a great weekend, Caroline!
Our JRT is the same way.
I’ve known another terrier though, who actually liked the vacuum cleaner, and always came out to get his (short) fur vacuumed. How do the other dogs your family has react to the dust busting beast?
oh!!! i LOVE that you added pineapple juice to your asian inspired dressing! what a great idea
i’m definitely going to have to remember that because i’m freaking OBSESSED with sesame oil right now!
hahahaha jj (my dog) is scared out of his mind when it comes to garbage, like when we take it out of the can he freaks out
My Jack does the same thing… believe me; its really NOT funny after about 8 years! I have to lock him in another room whenever I use the vacuum/mop/broom because he will actually start attacking and biting it. He’s gotten bolder over the years; when he was younger, he would just bark and run away… now he charges straight at it!
My pup freaks at the vacuum too. He actually collects all his toys and moves them around the house from room to room away from the vacuum.
