Meet the Parents

Several months ago, when the holiday held no significance to me whatsoever, I mentioned that I planned on running my first 10K this Valentine’s Day. What I’ve neglected to mention until now is that I will not be traveling home this weekend by myself…a certain “treadmill buddy” will be accompanying me.

In the interim between signing up for the race and its actual occurrence, I’ve been lucky enough to have Seth enter my life…and suddenly Valentine’s Day does not seem like such a crap holiday anymore. Rather than spend my first Valentine’s Day as a non-singleton by myself, the boy will be coming to Birmingham with me this weekend to watch me race—and meet my family. Uh oh.

Now I’m confident that my parents and sisters will like love Seth—his awesomeness will surely impress them. BUT, I am extremely concerned for the potential embarrassment that this weekend may bring. Keep your fingers crossed that my family behaves themselves and doesn’t decide to share one of the plentiful awkward Caroline stories. Oy.

Does your family like to embarrass you? Mine sure does—they relish in any opportunity to discuss my childhood shenanigans.

Now, I’ve got to finish packing…so let’s get onto the eats!

Breakfast was an old classic (well, at The Broccoli Hut, at least): pumpkin-banana oats. As per usual, this combination kept me full for close to 5 hours!

Once my hunger did return, however, I cobbled together another Salad Lady recipe, Chickpea Waldorf Salad.

After some serious homeworking, I decided to treat myself to another favorite dish, scrambled tofu. Too bad I couldn’t find some way to include red in this meal…otherwise I’d have the whole rainbow here:)

That’s all for this evening. I’ll be sure to check in tomorrow…hopefully with no humiliation stories to tell. Ciao!
