Mercedes Relay
Last week, you may recall that I participated in my first 10K…or what was supposed to be a 10K. The event I signed up for was actually a relay in which 5 people completed the Mercedes Marathon as a team. My leg of the race was to be 10 kilometers in length, and I aimed to complete it in less than 60 minutes.
Much to my surprise I arrived at the relay exchange point in a mere 43:43. I generally run a 7-8 minute mile, so this time seemed exceptionally fast for me. As it turns out, I did not get some spurt of super-human speed for this race; in fact, my leg of the race had been mis-measured. I actually ran about 5.55 miles (8.9K) in 43:43. According to my calculations, had I continued running at the same speed, I would have completed a 10K in just under 49 minutes.
I’m a little disappointed that my first 10K race was not in fact a 10K. Accordingly, I plan on running a legitimate 10K later this year. Keep an eye out for updates:)
I now leave you with a few pictures to enjoy from race day:

Congrats again
A 7-8 minute mile?? You are speedy!
You are still absolutely super fast!
any races in durham/duke you have in mind this spring?
Yay congrats on your race!!
I second Danielle – congrats on such a speedy run! Even if it wasn’t a real 10K, you were still right where you wanted to be for time – and you had an awesome welcoming committee!
congrats on the great race!!! you’re super fast!! good job!
That’s awful! I once ran a “5k” that was only 2.54 miles! I thought I was going to be the best in the state for cross country! Great time, though! Good luck later this year!
you and seth are so cute
that seriously stinks about the not being a 10K but on the other side of it not technically being a 10K atleast the tshirt says it is..
Despite the fact that it wasn’t a 10K you still deserve a big CONGRATS!! Way to go
Congratulations on your race time! I am seriously jealous of how fast you can run. I used to be able to run fast but these days I’m just happy to be able to run at all! (Knee issues). Getting older is no fun.
You don’t even look tired or sweaty at all! You still ran super fast in my book and deserve a big ol’ pat on the back
Being stood up is an awful feeling, don’t you feel like everyone around you knows that you are being stood up as well??
Oh well, at least you weren’t the one doing the act
Congrats on your race!
Oops…commented on the wrong post haha.
What a fun race! And you are SO FAST! 7-8 mn mile on average?!
I’ve never participated in a relay, but it sounds like fun.
