Mission Accomplished
Remember last week when I mentioned my assignment that required chatting up some fellow Whole Foods customers? Well, I successfully completed my mission this afternoon. I chatted up a pregnant lady about Brown Cow yogurt and then engaged an elderly woman on the pros and cons of Green & Black chocolate. Ultimately, I didn’t buy either of these items, but I enjoyed learning more about them, nonetheless.
Do you ever ask fellow shoppers for product recommendations at the grocery store? Typically I don’t do such things (I just ask my fellow bloggers instead!), but after this experience, I think I might do it more often; I was surprised at how much I learned from a few friendly strangers.
Aside from my Whole Foods education, I’ve been doing some eating too. Check out my eats since yesterday afternoon:
Monday
I’ve rekindled my love for meatless turkey…so I made another sandwich with it, this time in combination with hummus.
Last night, the dining committee ate together. Rather than relying on my usual salad bar, I branched out–I opted to get the vegetarian option at the main dining hall on campus. My conclusion? I should branch out more often, because not only was my plate balanced, but it was also delicious!
Tuesday
I cracked open a fresh box of whole grain Cream of Wheat this morning. A good start to the day, indeed.
When I returned from the gym this morning, I found that the falafel fairy had paid me a visit—more precisely, VeggiePatch had been kind enough to send me a package of their falafel balls to review for you all. I used them as a salad topper for lunch, and they were pretty phenom, much better than my own attempt at a baked version. They’re packed with vegetables and chickpeas, and their healthy fat makes them quite filling and delicious. Full review ASAP!
Now I have a crap-ton of reading to do before this evening. ‘Til tomorrow!

dang, those balls look delectable! twss!
I often OFFER advice, unsolicited, in the grocery store… I get excited about things I like, what can I say?!
I bought those falafel balls too… the name got me
I LOVE falafel!! I have yet to try some from a box though–I’ll look into it though. You got all that from the GH!? YUM! Way to change things up girl!
PS I cannot read that much Pollan….I just can’t. Impossible.
I never talk to other customers btu now you have me thinking I should! I would love to know what was said about Green & Blacks because it’s one of my favorites
Ohh! I tried those falafel balls when I was in NY because the local grocery had them
They didn’t have quite the authentic taste I’m used to at Lebanese restaurants, but they were pretty good!
Caroline!!!
Your roommate, Alanna, is in my neuroscience class! We were chatting about blogs and trader joe’s before class started
yum, apples and almond butter. This combo remains my absolute favorite snack EVER.
I never talk to other people in the grocery store, but I mean why not!? They’re just people, nothing wrong with striking up a convo!
Your cream of wheat looks heavenly!
Awesome assignment.. I wanna talk to randoms about yummy food.
Your food always looks fab, Im soo impressed by your choices, too, in the dining hall. When I was in college I ate subway 7 days a week.
I absolutely LOVE Falafels! It’s all I ate while abroad in the Middle East and eat them whenever I can find them State-side. Do you know which grocer carries veggie patch?
Love that you were striking up convo’s in Whole Foods too- I do it all the time, especially with the little old ladies you see slowly making there way around – it usually leads them to tell an interesting story about their life.
I’m not sure why I don’t talk to people in the grocery store more often. I love hearing people’s opinions!
I had meatless turkey for lunch too
I love falafels! Gotta try to finding that one around here now!
Never saw black barley before, pretty cool. Barley is so good, I love how hearty and chewy it is, plus it reminds me of oats in flavor so how could I not love it?!!
I made vegetable soup with barley yesterday and we had with a little dollop of pesto, omg, it was such a nice soup, even my 7yo loved it and could not stop eating! While I ate I just kept asking myself “why don’t I cook more with barley?!”
Ana
I love falafels – can’t wait for the product review!
I have never chatted up people in the grocery store – it would be interesting to talk to people about why they buy certain products. Like you, I try a lot of things based on what people write in their blogs.
that white bean ragu looks great!!
mmm Falafels.. its been ages since ive had those things!! I want to try making my own.
The ragout looks so suprisingly delicious!! I think I would definatly enjoy that.
I don’t know if I would ask people any questions where I usually do our family shopping. Haha I don’t think they know much about isles other than the beer or deli.
haha how could we forget about your WF homework?? pretty funny that you chatted up a preggers lady, sorta random! those falafels sound really good, i love anything falafel-y! ragout was one of my fave foods growing up, but it always had chicken in it so i never even considered a veg option! will definitely have to make some soon!
I think I want to try those falafel balls! But I’ll wait for the full review
I don’t think I’ve ever had cream of wheat…taste just like oats?
Those falafels look really good – I like how they’re green
I don’t usually talk to other customers when I food shop, it takes me long enough in there without conversation!
Hello! I just came across your blog and absolutely love it! Your food looks so good!
