Ms. Dolittle

Now, I’ve never had men beating down the door for my attention…but with animals, it’s a different story. Just within the time period that I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve had several encounters with wild animals:

Clearly, I’ve had more than my fair share of exposure to wildlife considering that I have grown up in the comforts of suburbia for my whole life. I’ve always assumed that I simply appear to be an easy target to these creatures; I must exude “I’m easy to to tease/mock/harass” vibes.

However, after my dream last night, I am starting to think that maybe they’re trying to tell me something. I dreamt that that I was in a field with four cows. They all told me that they were hungry, and I wanted to feed all four of them, but I only had three apples. The rest of the dream was spent in a crazed search for one more apple so that I could satisfy the needs of all four cows. Now, I really don’t think that cows eat apples, but still, there must be some sort of symbolism there, either with regard to my own life or to my relationship with animals. Perhaps I’m the next Dr. Dolittle?

Then again, this mysterious dream could simply be the result of watching Charlotte’s Web last week :)

What was the last dream you can remember? How do you interpret its meaning?

My dream-searching only lasted so long today, however. Soon enough, I got hungry.

It’s been far too long since I have actually had time to enjoy French toast for breakfast. In celebration of my reprieve from tests and papers, I prepared my beloved Tofu Banana French Toast this morning.

After running several errands, I finally got around to making lunch, which was a modified version of Tosca Reno’s Pumpkin Tofu Soup. I’ll be sure to post my recipe soon.

I have a tendency to label any soup/stew with okra in its ingredients list as “gumbo.” Culinarily speaking, that’s probably not an accurate use of the term…but I don’t care. I’m calling tonight’s dinner gumbo with black-eyed peas.

Alright, I am off to enjoy the weekend. Ciao!

    Apple Tree
To see an apple tree in your dream, symbolizes grandeur and magnificence. You are feeling larger than life.

    Apples
To see apples growing in a tree in your dream, symbolize knowledge, wisdom and great prosperity. Rewards are on the horizon for you. Consider also the common phrase, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” which may imply that you need to take better care of your health. Perhaps you need to go to the doctor. Or the dream may also be a metaphor for an apple computer.

To dream that you are eating an apple, denotes harmony, pleasure, and fertility. In a biblical sense, eating an apple symbolizes your sexual appetite, lustful desires, and sexual awareness as associated with the apple in the Garden of Eden.

To see apples scattered on the ground in your dream, signifies that false friends are working to deceive and harm you.

To see rotten or eaten apples in your dream, indicates that whatever you are striving and aiming for may not be fulfilling, and even harmful to you. It may also represent neglect and carelessness.

    Cow
To see a cow in your dream, symbolizes your passive and docile nature. You obey others without question. Alternatively, a cow represents maternal instincts or the desire to be cared for. For some cultures, the cow represents divine qualities of fertility, nourishment and motherhood.

To see the skeleton of a cow, suggests that your mother or motherly figure in your waking life is displaying a lack of emotions. She is being unresponsive to your needs.

To see a herd of cows, indicates your need to belong.

To dream that you are milking a cow, represents your willingness and drive to work hard. In the end, you will benefit from your hard work.

  6. haha- what a funny dream. I always remember bits and pieces of my dreams. They’re usually a mish mosh of strangeness. The seeds on top of the soup look so pretty. And I was thinking about making French Toast this weekend ( a vegan version)- so delicious! Hope you have a wonderful weekend

  7. The Pumpkin Tofu Soup looks really delicious (as do the gumbo!), can’t wait to see your recipe! (did you adapt one from her book or from clean eating mag?)

  8. …sorry if i cause trouble with my comment… this link may help you with ur dreams and further ;) http://www.dreammoods.com/

  9. Haha…I’ve had similair animal encounters. Usually with cats and dogs, but a random geese attack has been known to happen as well. ;)

Your creamy pumpkin soup looks simply divine! I’ve been looking for a good pumpkin soup recipe to try. :D

  10. Animals are clearly attracted to your compassionate nature :) . Poor cows, I would have wanted to find that cow an apple, too. I think dream interpretation is really fun. I found a few sites for you, but the other commenters seemed to have covered it. However, I have to mention that one interpretation was that cows signify divinity of femininity. Basically, you’re quit the goddess :P .

Pumpkin tofu soup sounds great! I can’t wait for the recipe. Also, I would love it if you could post your “gumbo” recipe. I’ve been wanting to use okra for a while (I’m a Northern so I don’t really get much opportunity.)

    Have a lovely day!

  11. I totally call anything with okra gumbo. To me, it ain’t gumbo without okra, and I can’t say I’ve ever had okra in another dish. Therefore logic dictates that okra = gumbo.

  12. I love remembering my dreams :) Last night I dreamt about my boyfriend… no worries, it wasn’t graphic. ;) But I woke up smiling.

The peak of my being pooped on by birds was during high school– lunch period outside. Gah.

P.S. Reeses Pieces oatmeal sounds very, very, very necessary for me now.
