My Kind of Fro-Yo
As you may recall, I mentioned in Friday’s post that I would be heading to Local Yogurt for my first taste of natural frozen yogurt. After my afternoon and evening of hard work, Alanna and I decided we deserved a little treat…and a treat is what we got. Local Yogurt offers a plain variety in addition to continuously rotating flavored varieties; on Friday the flavored offerings happened to include pumpkin, chocolate, and peanut butter. I noticed that the flavored varieties contained egg yolks, which I try to avoid as a lacto-vegetarian, so I opted for the plain. Plus, I decided that ordering plain allowed me free-reign with my topping selections:)
I topped mine with warm spiced apples and a few spoons of chopped pecans. Glorious! I can’t wait to go back—Alanna and I have decided that a visit to Local Yogurt will be come a regular occurrence. I’m already dreaming about future combinations…What do you like to put on your frozen yogurt/frozen desserts?
I did eat a few things besides frozen yogurt this weekend, however. Take a look at the goods:
Friday
Tasty smoothie that was sadly left unaccompanied by equally delicious blog-reading—stupid internet outages. How is a food blogger supposed to survive with a wonky wireless connection?
Saturday
I had grandiose plans of making a batch of protein pancakes for breakfast on Saturday, but by the time I got home from the gym, I was far too hungry for all that fussiness. Frozen waffles it was.
Scoopability at its finest.
Thanks to some expert advice from a certain Mama Pea, I baked up a batch of acorn squash fries for dinner. Perfect complement for a mound of ketchup and a pickle-tastic veggie burger.
I concluded my day of intense studying with a luscious berry smoothie.
Sunday
I had a mandatory sorority meeting this morning, so I didn’t get to go to Chapel this morning, but I still had my customary Sunday morning oat bran. I loaded on the antioxidants with cocoa powder, almonds, and pomegranate seeds.
Lunch was another batch of filling tortilla soup—black beans, soy sausage, and whole grains do wonders for satiety.
More soup for dinner, this time with grilled cheese on the side (aka the perfect soup dipper). “Dessert” was an apple with PB.
If you haven’t had a chance, check out my bar post from this afternoon, and let me know your suggestions for future bar reviews. Good night all!

that froyo looks sooo good!! im craving it now!!
Does the almond milk add any flavor to the oats?? I feel like its mellow taste wouldn’t add much…but maybe it makes them creamier?! Do share, i’ve always wondered!!
And warmed apples at a fro yo place?! That obvs sounds heavenly to meeee !!
PS I want that scoopable mexican dish nowww!! Love healthy, home-made nachos so much.
I’m glad your fries worked out! Have you tried carrot fries yet? EVEN BETTER.
That froya sounds insanely delicious! Like an apple pie in a bowl
I love, love, LOVE froyo!
It’s really not popular over here…to be honest: I can’t even think of a place that sells them here! So I’m missing it…especially after this post. That looks sooo good!

That yogurt place looks super cute.. where is it at??
Also, Im loving your oat bran with pom., what a delightful breakfast!
I don’t eat frozen yogurt that often, but when I do it’s alway a twist with sprinkles (with the occasional branch out, of course). However, I might look at it a bit healthier if I added those warm apples…yum!
And I just wanted to say that although I don’t intellectually comment all that much, I really see your blog as a positive, inspirational site full of recovery-oriented ideas and great food (that I will never be able to make, but still…) If I could hire you to come cook for me, that would be great, so see what you can do
As for bars, I LOVE Bumble Bars and never see them in the blogosphere, which is a shame. Very good, and good for you.
Happy to know the frozen yogurt is delicious, I will add that to one of my must try local places! Love frozen desserts, yum!
Ana
What a great looking bowl of frozen yogurt!
I love the looks of your mexican dip – that looks delicious!
We sadly don’t have frozen yogurt places like that in New England
But my regular yogurt I like to jazz up with jam and some sort of organic gourmet chopped chocolate
yummmmmyyyy fro yo! it sounds SO good
and glad you treated yourself! much deserved.
I love reece’s pieces or fruit on my fro yo. Love Local Yogurt! Did you see they have potatoes chips as a topping??
that local yogurt place looks SO good! i am all about the plain base too – all the better to load up mounds upon mounds upon mounds of toppings!
did you eat the skin on the acorn squash? i roasted an acorn squash, but ate it like an orange because i found the peel kind of gross.
your pics are gorge – esp the smoothie in a bowl from a post or two back. the color is brilliant!

Oh man! FroYo is my weakness. Although im usually a purist..I like mine just plain. =)Although sometimes some crushed peanuts are awesome! Oh and the waffles with some fage, hazelnuts, cranberry sauce and maple syrup. Wow perfect fall flavors.
I’m reading your blog at the conference–I’m in a session on social media
Glad you finally got to try tart yogurt–It’s my ultimate addiction. I just had green tea tart froyo yesterday walking through Georgetown when I had a couple hours of down time. We should make our Saturday project day a culinary day too!
LOVE all the topping choices!
mmm that yogurt is calling my name!!! great toppings you chose too!!
that oatbran looks great too!!! i make my oats with almond milk and it really brings out the flavor!!
haha just talking about fro yo gets me all teared up!!
Boston is sadly lacking good fro yo IMHO, but at home i’m allll about the chocolate with sprinkles!
Ahhh … that fro yo place looks amazing!!!
Fro-yo places seem so popular in the US, with all those flavours and toppings. I think the only one we have here is Yogen-Fruz, and I don’t think they have the variety either. So sad, because they sound so good.
