My (Peanut Butter) World Is Complete
Last March, I compiled a review post for Peanut Butter and Company peanut butters. While I enjoyed all the flavors that I tried, I was still a bit perturbed by the incomplete nature of the post–I still had not sampled two of the company’s tasty flavors. I searched around town in both Birmingham and Durham but to no avail; the Bee’s Knees and The Heat Is On peanut butters could not be found. My fixation on finding these elusive varieties only intensified when I bought myself a copy of the Peanut Butter and Company cookbook. Finally, I contacted the company about the whereabouts of these hard-to-find varieties, and they kindly offered to send me a couple jars so that I could complete my review. Thank you! I am beyond excited to give these peanut-y concoctions a taste. Some people get giddy over jewels or expensive clothing. I get my kicks from pricey peanut butter.
Fun question: If you could create/taste any flavor of peanut butter, what would it be? I think mine would probably include notes of coconut and ginger.
Ironically enough, I don’t think I consumed any peanut butter today. Here’s what I did eat:
Monday
I’m thinking that chocolate syrup might have to go on the grocery list next week. Choco-berry shakes just aren’t the same without that touch of decadence.

choco-berry shake with strawberries, chocolate HempShake, soymilk, & raw oats
Tuesday
Apparently my taste buds really want it to be fall already–I had a wicked craving for pumpkin-banana oats this morning. I happily obeyed their commands:)

While the burrito was tasty enough, the real star of this meal was the salad–those tomatoes from the farmers’ market were full of unadulterated tomato-ey, summer-y flavor. Mmm.

bean burrito with avocado, light cheddar, & spinach, plus salsa for dipping; salad (with local tomatoes!); orange
My super simple lentil loaf was on the menu tonight. As per usual, I made extra for the express purpose of having a lentil loaf sandwich later in the week. I’m looking forward to it already…

Before I peace out, I want to draw your attention to my new tag cloud to the right of your screen. Notice any trends?

Hello and welcome! I have created this blog for people who love food, especially healthful, vegetarian food.
I have just graduated from Duke University with degrees in English and psychology. I plan to pursue a master's degree in nutrition starting in Fall 2010. Ideally, I would like to combine my love of food and the written word someday as a health writer.

hey girl! so happy you found the MIA flavors!! just a heads up — i found the bees knees at the end of last semester at the fresh grocer in chapel hill off of Highway 54! just in case you fall madly in love and need to replenish
hahaha LOVE the tag cloud! mine would be pretty similar, i’m sure…
My perfect peanut butter (or almond butter, actually) would be PB and banana with real banana chunks mixed in. Holy yum!
I’m going to have to search for your lentil loaf recipe, as it looks yummy, I want leftovers and you called it “easy.” I might have to experiment…
Glad you found those flavors! Neither are my favorite(that’d be white chocolate wonderful) but no collection would feel complete without them.
Glad to know I’m not the only person with their cookbook, too!
My dream PB flavor = dulce de leche PB.
Love the tag cloud on the right – I see TOFU
Ooh, lentil loaf sounds delightful! If I could create any flavour of PB, it would have pureed dates in it. I always smash up dates on top of crackers with PB – it’s a heavenly combo!
lentil loaf mmmm….
best trends ever TOFU + HUMMUS!! did you see my post a few days ago? it would knock your socks off (since its combining two of your fave things)
CCK (Katie) asked the same question today about nutbutters….I responded something with some chocolate, something maybe like a hazelnut/cashew/chocolate/sunflower mix. Rich and decadent with some chocolate and thick like PB not thin like AB or SB.
I gave you a shout out on my bloggie today for noticing the S on my sunbuttah oats yesterday
Your idea for coconut ginger peanut butter sounds perfect! I would love a toffee flavored peanut butter, which Naturally Nutty does already, though I haven’t gotten my hands on it yet.
I was SO excited to see that article in the Chronicle this morning! I don’t go there that often but that is about to change. I’m glad you’re on the committee and being my voice
You get so much beautiful sunlight in your apartment…I do not!
coconut and ginger would be awesome nots in PB!
i had a rum+cashew nut butter once.. amazing!!
Your meals look delicious!
What exactly is that pumkin oatbran?
I SO wanna try those peanut butters, but guess what: off course they don’t sell them over here:( Maybe I will try to order some online when I’m ordering my next amount of Larabars…
Enjoy your day! xxx Julia (Taste of Living)
Reason number five hundred and eight why I envy you: multiple PB flavours (although I’m vegan and have a slight allergy to chilli, so perhaps not THOSE PB flavours lol)
I would have to say that I’d love to see a cacao peanut butter ~ the DCD is just a bit too sweet for me and I’d prefer a denser chocolate flavour. Or Smooth Operator with dark chocolate chips in it. Mmm…
Congrats on getting more PB, I really need to buy some ASAP! My dream flavor would be Dark Chocolate + Caramel PB!
so glad you finally got the last two flavors to try!
I tried heat is on and didn’t like it much, hope you like it.
My favorite nut better is always almond butter. With chocolate? better!
I’ve had your lentil loaf book marked since you sent it to me and I have GOT to make it! Perhaps today
I hope you enjoy that spicy PB! It sounds like it would be really good!
Ahhhh I have always wanted to try both of those!!! Honey and maple syrup.. my favorite sweetners ever! I would LOVE a pb with coconut!!
I second or third the “mmm” to the lentil loaf. And I am also in awe of that wrap!
That’s awesome that the company sent you those flavors to try! I’m not a big honey fan but the Bee’s Knees is delicious!
And your oats sound so yummy! I crave pumpkin year round.. I guess my body just likes fall foods

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the HEAT is ON one. I’ve seen it around here but have been too chicken to buy it!
Thanks for the reminder!! I’ve been meaning to make that lentil loaf! You just reminded me!!!

I don’t know what to think about the spicy flavor, But the bee’s knees flavor sounds great. I love honey and peanut butter together.
I want to try the maple flavor. But sadly the only flavor I have only tried has been white chocolate wonderful.

I love that lentil loaf recipe! The accompaniments look comforting and tasty as well
I’m so glad that you found the last 2 flavors. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on them!
Hmmm, speaking of pumpkin, I think I would go for pumpkin peanut butter with cinnamon and maple–an autumn-inspired flavor!
Hey Caroline! I still yet have to try your lentil loaf….it looks so good!
I’m still lovin your overnight crockpot pumpkin steel cut oats! So yummy!
How bout Peanut butter/carrot …..sounds interesting..hmm?
hooray for completing the PB collection! my PB would include vanilla bean flavoring as it is my fave. love your big words in your cloud
Mm I love the bee’s knees – it’s a good one! I think a good peanut butter flavor would have hints of pumpkin and nutmeg.
I’ve tried the Bee’s Knees but I am curious as to what the other flavor is all about. I’ll be looking forward to reading your reviews. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I have that cookbook! there are some pretty decadent recipes in there… yummy ones too! good ones for noodles with the spicy peanut butter.
its pretty spicy! i used it in turkey sandwiches a couple of times. other than that it’s not as useful as the other ones.
Hi Caroline,
Just found your blog and have to say this is the only veggie heavy blog that really makes me want to give your eating style a try! All your food looks truly delish and as a foodie, it’s hard to visualize nuts and veggies cutting it for me, but I am definitely going to try some of your recipes!!!! Yum!
Keep on eating and sharing!! – L
