(Great title, right? I can’t take credit for it—you can thank the folks at Tandoor Chef for that glorious food pun).

Last spring, you may recall that I did a bit of freezer foraging, that is, I set out to eat the entire contents of my freezer before moving out. One of the gems I stumbled upon in said foraging was a frozen pizza…but it was no ordinary pizza, or “naan your average pizza,” if you will.

Tandoor Chef sent me a sample of their new naan pizzas to review for you all, and I was delighted—I mean, I love naan, and I love pizza. What’s not to like? I was not disappointed by these frozen masterpieces.

I’ve always been a thick-crust kind of girl when it comes to pizza, so I quite enjoyed the pillowy texture of the naan in combination with your typical pizza toppings. It’s worth noting, however, that the naan did develop a lovely crispiness too once baked in the oven. Major yummage.

The sauce was a nice combination of spicy and sweet but quite salty, typical of most frozen pizzas. The naan wasn’t over-loaded with cheese (which I consider a plus), and there was a generous portion of spinach covering the naan. It is all too common for frozen pizzas to skimp on the vegetables, so I liked the abundance of green.

Nutritionally, these naan pizzas are quite reasonable, as long as you stick to the suggested serving size (1/2 pizza). All varieties contain:

• 280 kcalories
• 12-13 grams of fat
• 2-3 grams of fiber
• 11-12 grams of protein
• 480-540 mg sodium
• 200 mg calcium

Bearing that in mind, these pizzas are very reasonable in terms of kcalories and fat, but, like most frozen foods, the sodium is quite high, with each variety providing roughly 20-22% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA). Consider pairing it with a big salad for a fiber kick, and you’ve got a relatively balanced meal.
