Nanette’s Love Story
As I began my run this morning (ah, such joy that phrase brings me), I set Nanette on shuffle and let her do her thang. Apparently, she decided to narrate an out-of-sequence love story:
First, there was a little Ke$ha action…
Then came a Glee-tastic ballad…
And finally the long beloved Michael Buble.
So within the span of about ten minutes we went from berating a boy for not keeping it in his pants, to a marriage proposal, to contemplations on when the right one will come along. Chronological, no, but motivating? Heck yes.

After that rockin’ run, I celebrated with some tasty eats.
All that talk of peanut flour last night got me craving it. Hence, this morning’s choco-PB protein shake.
For lunch, I packed a Greek Salad with a tiny dose of pine nuts. Anyone know why pine nuts are so friggin’ fraggin’ expensive? One itty bitty jar was more than 4 dollars!
Tonight’s dinner was an Ellie recipe, Lamb Stew with Orange.
My tweaks:
-In order to suit my vegetarian diet, I used Gardein beef tips instead of lamb chunks, similar to how I did for her Beef & Mushroom Barley Soup.
-I omitted the dry red wine, mostly because I never seem to have any alcohol around. I know—lame.
-I omitted the chickpeas (gasp!) because I used them all up for lunch today (see above).
I was a little apprehensive about this savory orange-mint pairing, but it was quite delicious! The orange segments simmered in the broth and made the Gardein chunks slightly sweet. Perhaps I should use oranges in more of my soup cookery…

Alright, I am off to get organized for my orthopedist appointment tomorrow morning. Nighty night.

i love your idea of the Ellie project but i was wondering…..do you ever get a little annoyed that all the recipes in your book are available free online? i dont get why she made a book haha
What brand of cottage cheese do you buy?
So glad you’re getting to run again! And you have got my jonsing for some middle eastern food, everything looks great as always!
Yay you can run again!
I have no idea WHY pine nuts are so expensive, but I get mine at Costco and stick ‘em in the freezer- super cheap and they last forever!
I had the same exact salad for lunch, expect with the addition of glorious tahini. Great minds think alike!
And by the way, those are my favorite workout songs, too! Hehe. We really are twins.
Love that random playlist! It certainly would be motivating.
Your modifications to the soup look great. I think I’d prefer your version. The orange is so intriguing!
I really need to get an ipod! Mine broke last year, and I’ve yet to replace it. But a good playlist is such a great motivator.
Did you watch Glee last night? When the principal said Ke$has name – I almost peed myself
What a great mix up! I honestly only listen to music when I workout when I teach or take group fitness classes! When I get on the treadmill- I watch TV and when I run outside I like peace and quiet
I had a smoothie this AM- fantastic way to start the day. And pine nuts are ridiculous expensive!
I’m working as a tester for a cookbook and a lot of recipes call for pine nuts. I really wanted to just omit them but thought it wouldn’t be fair, so I shelled out. No clue really why they’re so expensive but if you enjoy them they’re cheaper in bulk (just store them in the freezer)- or I got a pretty decent bag at TJ for only 8 bucks.
The savory/mint/orange combination sounds awesome in the stew!
That soup look awesome! And I want to try adding peanut flour to my smoothies, yum…
