Ode to Pickles
My affection for pickles goes way back. In fact, for pretty much every day of 4th grade, I packed the same sandwich: white bread with fat free bologna, fat free cheese, a smear of mayonnaise—and lots of bread and butter pickles. Yeah, I know. Don’t judge me.
Pickles remained a favorite into adolescence. Indeed, during my anorexic days, a jar of pickles would be make up my entire day’s intake. It was about this time that I decided that my fondness for pickles had reached an unhealthy level. Accordingly, I gave them up one year for Lent and really didn’t touch them for about five years.
Soon enough, I began to crave those sour little suckers, and I began sneaking them into my diet—in moderation. Observe:
Anyway, last weekend I was at Seth’s house, and I noticed an unopened jar of pickles in his refrigerator. I gave into temptation and cracked that baby open and zoinked one…or more. Oh, glorious pickles. I’m not sure how many I ended up eating, but it had to be at least four (holy sodium!). As a result, I indulged myself while grocery shopping today:
Do you like pickles? What’s your favorite way to eat them?
I am posting early today because Seth and I are headed to a few of Duke’s homecoming activities this evening. Translation: post not likely to happen later. So without further ado…
Breakfast was a hybrid of two B-Hut creations: pumpkin yogurt + breakfast parfait = heaven.
After running around with errands, I returned home ready for some lunch. I was quite pleased with the colorful plate I concocted.
Alright, off to pick out a dress for the evening. Ta-ta lovelies!

Pickles are amaaaazing
I LOVE pickles! I don’t think I could give them up for a year…what a challenge that must have been! I think my favourite way to eat them is on a brown seeded bread cheese sandwich! yum x
This post screams deliciousness to me. I love love love pickles (and that is my favorite brand). I need to try the preggers lady special…I’ve never done pickles and nut butter together. And stuffed squash- how I love thee. Have fun at homecoming
josh is dragging me to the duke football game tomorrow
if you are going perhaps i’ll see you there!
and now i SO OOOOOOO want a pickle. badly.
I am not a pickle person AT ALL. I can’t stand them!
I used to hate pickles but now like them. The only time I eat them is when I am at my parents house or eat out. There is too much sodium in them and I would probably eat the whole jar by myself in a few days. Enjoy your night and weekend.
Looks amazing, well done gurl
Have a good time with Seth this weekend, as I know the weekend if you twos “hangout time”
I like pickles.. just a little bit in my sandwiches… I can’t eat it plain… too sour!
Oh, I’m such a weirdo. I really, really don’t like the pickles
I’m determined to try pickles and peanut butter. It sounds like such an odd combo, but I can see myself liking it.
PICKLES BABY!!! WOOHOO!! and u cant go wrong with Claussen. thats so crazy tho cuz that was the only kind my mom bought us growing up; the kosher dill!!! i think because of it we’ve always hated the sour ones. plus these big ones were so much crunchier!!
xoxo
I am a huge pickle fanatic. My Dad’s family has a secret recipe so I grew up with homemade ones. The story goes that Heinz actually wanted to buy our recipe but my great grandfather wouldn’t sell. Anyway, I always say that vinegar runs in my veins for that reason. I think my favorite way to eat pickles is in a tuna sandwich, they can be dill or sweet but dill are my favorite. However, there are occasions in which only a sweet will do. Great post! I haven’t ever tried the peanut butter sandwich but might have to now.
I love pickles, too. My mom makes the best homemade ones. I crave them after running a lot!
I love pickles! we made all sorts in culinary school. I used to live off them in my anorexic days too. so sad. now they are a condiment, not the main meal. I love bread n butter pickles! they go best with tuna!
I LOVE pickles! My new favorite thing is pickled okra! I really want to try making pickles myself. It sounds so easy from what I have read!
To say I like pickles would be a little bit of an understatement.
So happy to see I am not alone…(we know what’s up).
Anyways..My favorite pickles are the deli-bought half-sours. Have you had them? They are bright green- barely pickled and almost more cucumber-ish.
S-O-G-O-O-D……specially with sweetener and peanut buttah!

Oh how I love pickles. I feel that pretty much any sandwich can be improved with the addition of pickles. They are a must on a burger or with tuna. Or, ya know, just to snack on. Hurray for pickles!
