OK, I Take that Back…
You may recall that in a recent post, I declared that my dad and I are the only members of my family with a proper respect for good food. For my mother, the kitchen no longer holds any appeal whatsoever, nor does she express any interest in food in general. While my sisters share a zeal for dessert-making, I assumed that they were bored to tears by my foodie blabbering. Today, however, after a lengthy conversation about kitchen appliances and food blogs, I discovered that my sister Katie has developed an interest in cooking over the past year. WHAT?! This is the sister who formerly could live off of Kraft macaroni and cheese alone, if I let her. Now, she’s telling me all about her artichoke chicken dish from last week and asking me for information on food processors. Yes, I now rescind my previous declaration that my father and I are the only foodies of the family. How about you? Are your family members as interested in food as you are?
I must say, today has been a day of uncommonly good eats. Check it out:
Thursday
Evening snackage and smoothie break:

another snack mix: the ubiquitous GoLean with honey cinnamon almonds & dried fruit

strawberry pineapple smoothie with soymilk, vanilla spice hemp, & Acai Apple granola
Friday
With a package of fresh raspberries in the fridge, I had no choice but to whip up a bowl of “R” oats today. Raisins and raspberries might sound like an odd combination, but somehow they worked well together–especially when topped with a hefty scoop of cinnamon raisin PB (reviewed here).

"R" oats: oat bran, rice milk, raspberries, raisins, & cinnamon raisin PB

After discussing the merits of immersion blenders with Katie, I got the urge to use mine to make some hummus. This time I whipped up the Curry Chickpea Hummus from ED&BV. It was quite tasty; I especially enjoyed the unexpected inclusion of currants. However, I think I was a bit heavy-handed with the turmeric–you’d think I’d learn after my last neon bean creation.

I’ve seen several bloggers featuring (purchased) falafel salads lately, and the pictures have left me salivating. Hence, tonight’s attempt at creating a similar version at home with Sunshine falafel. I can’t get over how much creamier Fage 2% is than the 0% variety. I’ve grown up in a house that always had skim milk and nonfat yogurt, so this dairy richness is quite the novelty to my tastebuds. It was equally wonderful in the tzaziki as well as in combination with fresh apricots. This was my first time to taste fresh apricots–delish!

Quick question for you video bloggers: after recording a video today, I realized that you must pay for the capability to embed video into WordPress posts. Have you found this capability worth the price? Is it difficult to configure videos into your posts? Thanks in advance for any advice you may provide me!
I am off to pack for my weekend at the lake. Have a great Memorial Day!

My family is nowhere close as interested in food as I am…they can live on soup and white bread!
Have a great weekend
I’d just post your video on you tube and then embed it in your post. I also use flickr, which allows me to upload. No offense to wordpress, but I wouldn’t give them any money for photo or video uploading.
great eats indeed!!!
None one in my family were interested on food/diet/healthy eats until recently my Dad was diagnosed to have diabetes and high cholesterol, so now he’s interested!
I had the same thing happen to my family! My sister’s cooking abilities (and interests) used to be restricted to toast and cold cereal, but now she loves food and cooking just as much as I do. I like to think we set good examples
And I must get my hands on that sunshine falafel.
Oh yum…everything looks so colorful. Especially the oat bran…I almost forgot how much I loved that stuff!
Almost my entire family enjoys cooking to some extent, which is kind of nice. We all have our different areas of interest though, in what we like to cook. I’m sort of the family health nut.
I’m thinking those falafel patties are in my near future! They sound fantastic!!
My family is no where near as interested in food/nutrition as I am – my dad is a steak and potatoes kind of guy and my mom goes back and forth between eating like me and eating like my dad
haha so funny about your sis!! Actually my bro is a really good cook and baker, but we’ve always lived apart so we haven’t been able to work together yet in the kitchen!! And I love cooking with my Mom- since she shares my love of CLEAN food….and makes some good classics- salmon, chicken, pork roast, refried beans (my recipe is from her!), etc.
Totally jealous of your sunshine burgers! I want to try that flavor so badly!!!
HAPPPPPPPPPPPPPY WEEKEND BEAUTIFUL C!
No one in my family is as interested in food as I am. I think they think I’m a little crazy for it actually!
Raisins and raspberries does sounds interesting, but I can see how it’d be a good combo. I love them both!
Have a fun weekend
glad your sis is a foodie now! my whole family loves food. my mom cooks practically everyday and is always finding interesting new recipes. my dad doesn’t cook often, but when he does, he goes all out, and its delicious! (he loves alton brown). my sister is a baking machine…i instantly gain 5 pounds if i go home when she is on a baking spree (which is usually!). my brother is 14 years old and would probably be happy living off of fast food, but every once in a while he surprises us….on thanksgiving last year, he insisted on making us a homemade pumpkin pie!
I’ve uploaded a youtube video on my post before and it was for freeee!! So maybe change your vid over to a youtube account and then post it from there?
Falafels sound SO good right now, I’ve never seen that sunshine product…i’ll have to look out for it! And yess my mom loves to cook and eat all the foods I love just as much, except I do get a little more adventurous than her when mixing together different oats/yogurt combinations!
I wish my family would be interested in food too…but they just eat whatever’s around, and aren’t as excited as I am about trying new restaurants! I tried getting them interested in oatmeals…and they LOVED it…except they eat it TOTALLY bland and runny, with not even salt or ANY flavorings! I’ve just about given up on them.
falafels! love them!
You could try uploading the video on youtube or another website and just post it in your post.
that dinner salad looks so yummy!
I don’t think anyone in my family is AS into food as I am, but my mom is pretty adventuresome and will try lots of new things out. My sister is getting better, and may even have an interest in cooking now (finally). My dad is a lost cause – he has his tried and true, and he’s fine with that. HA!
