One Pitiful Puppy

Today was an important day in the puppy-hood of Miss Margot Mae—today she was spayed.

When I took her in this morning, she was her normal rambunctious self, sniffing and licking everything in sight…but when I returned this evening to pick her up, I was greeted by this pitiful little creature:

Aside from her subdued behavior, I knew she was not feeling well when I presented her with dinner, and she wouldn’t touch it. Margot loves food almost as much her mother (ahem, me!), so snubbing her dinner is a major warning sign!  I was able to get her to eat some peanut butter, however :)

I think she’s in a lot of pain, and it hurts me to watch her suffer so much! Fortunately, the vet gave me plenty of instructions and some medication to help her handle the pain.

Seth and I plan to rent some doggie movies this weekend—our canine patient will need some entertainment amidst her recovery. Any suggestions? I’m voting for Homeward Bound or My Dog Skip.

Aside from playing nurse, I managed to put together some tasty meals today.

I didn’t have to do a foods lab shop today, so I seized the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely breakfast with some Orange-Blueberry Protein Pancakes. Technically, I used a clementine instead of an orange…but citrus is citrus, right?

I wasn’t all that hungry for lunch, so I decided to make my Creamy Spinach Pasta with Tomatoes. This time, however, I used leftover spaghetti squash instead of pasta.

Tonight’s dinner was an Ellie recipe, Lemon-Garlic Marinated Lamb Chops.

My tweak:

-I used cod instead of lamb. I figured that lemon and garlic could hardly be a bad flavor combo for fish!

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t expecting much for this recipe. I mean, how exciting could lemon, garlic, and oregano really be? Surprisingly, the fish was fantastic! It had just the right amount of herbaciousness (is that a word?) and saltiness. I loved it.

With that, I wish you good night! Happy weekend to all :)

  1. I preface this with an excuse that I have a 10 year old brother and thus a justification for having seen this movie in the first place =)

That being said, Hotel for Dogs is actually a really entertaining movie involving dogs. Much better than I anticipated and has TONS of dog onscreen constantly to cheer up Miss Margot.

Hey, there’s no shame in appreciating a good dog movie :) Thanks for the recommendation!!

  2. Aww puppy! Enjoy the movies! Haha :D

  3. I’m so sorry about Margot– I know how you must feel. She’s like your kid, so that much be tough :) Yummy food and good movies are the perfect recuperative activities :)

  4. I feel so bad for saying this, but I chuckled when I saw the first picture of Margot. Gah, she looks so dang adorable even when she’s sad. Give her a huge cuddle and tickle for me, will you? :)

Oh I love baked fish, have you try sprinkling moroccan seasoning on top of the fish, it’s delicious – serve on the side with couscous.

  5. When my dog had her operation, an elderly lady in the waiting room took one look at her and said ‘Looks like somebody has had their pockets picked!’ I thought that was pretty funny. Peanut butter always goes down a treat, whether you be of the human or canine variety! Yummy looking pancakes.

  6. I fixed my cat not such a long time ago, and seeing her in pain was absolutely heart breaking! :( I hope Margot feels better soon, it’s amazing how quickly they grow up! She is such a cutie.

  7. Awwwww… puppies always look so sad with those cones. But it’s for a good reason. Like getting your wisdom teeth out. Ugh.

Also, your pancakes look gorgeous! And I love your maple-glazed walnut idea! I think I might have some maple-glazed pecans hiding out in my cabinet somewhere. Might just have to channel my twin and put them in my pumpkin cereal!

  8. I love cod! Thanks for reminding me to make it soon ;)

  9. i do the same thing as you: use meat-base recipes and sub the meat with fish. that way you get to try EVERY cookbook and can be a little creative too.
What’s the recipe for the blueberry pancakes? they look delicious!

  10. awww that first picture is so sad + endearing at the same time! pb was a good idea – i can tell you’re an awesome dog mom :)

  11. The food pics have yummy-ness written all over them :-)

  12. everything looks so good.

  13. Aww…Margot looks adorably pitiful in the second picture!

The creamy spinach sauce looks delicious; I would have never thought to put it on spaghetti squash. I’ve only had spaghetti squash with brown sugar on it, so the idea of using it as a part of a savory dish takes some getting used to. Someday I’ll be brave and try it with marinara sauce or something.

  14. you should rent BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA! its a feel good doggy movie for sure!
